Sound Session #182 (11-23-08)

Ever have one of those times where everything is going great, and then something completely random goes wrong and tries to pull you down? That’s pretty much how my weekend went. Aside from my 6th grade basketball team crashing out of our tournament with the quickness, everything was busy, but still dope…until I drove in to the station for this week’s Sound Session and my car decided to blow up. It took all day today to get things back up and running, but I swear, those Prius jawns look better by the minute.
Thankfully, this week’s show provided a little therapy through an hour and a half of good music and good people. We ran a ton of great tracks and played two short snippets of our recent interview with Talib Kweli. Be sure to check out the full version of that interview (and watch the video in HD) below. Also, shout to the homegirl Jessica from Spectre for coming through to kick it!

u need to put up the jake one – the truth video. how u feel bout this year in hip hop? only 2 albums really stood out to me (LAX, II Trill) like those are classics…alot of dope albums tho…but just those 2 are still in the stereo 10 years later.
also u seriously like kanye dont ya…i really am tired of this voice box shit dude…it aint creative it aint good it aint anything…his last 3 albums were all the shit but this one is not my style at all…kanye aint even my style regularly but he still came with dope tracks that were appealing to everybody but these are just straight up pop
I don’t think either LAX or II Trill are anywhere near close to classics, but there were plenty of good albums. I haven’t sat down to think of what I’d call a classic though.
As for Kanye, you comment as if “pop” is bad by definition. There’s great pop music and there’s bad pop. Kanye’s making dope pop music right now
well 2 me when ur using auto tune that usually means u shouldnt be singing in the 1st place. he can do what he does but im just sayin that this could get alot of his fan base pissed off…the album feels like his electric circus
