Bobby Ray flips the classic Tribe track for his edition of the Reebok Classic series and absolutely murders the hook.  Super catchy.  Shout to the Cornerstone folks, B Rich, Tre, and TJ…dope job fellas.

Q-Tip – Renaissance Rap (video)

Posted in A Tribe Called Quest, Artists, Music Videos on November 19th, 2008 by Hyphen

Rik Cordero and the team at Three/21 Films connected with Q-Tip for another video off his new album, The Renaissance, which is in stores now.  I need to listen to the full project, cause everything I’ve heard so far has been pretty dope.  Be on the lookout for the next Cordero/Tip collab for “Manwomanboogie” dropping soon…

Mick Boogie x Dope Couture x A Tribe Called Quest

Can We Kick It

We’ve seen a bunch of dope Obama shirts over the last year, and here’s another one to add to the list thanks to Mick Boogie and Dope Couture.  Nothing is assured yet, but I’m so excited about the state of the presidential race right now.  I can’t even imagine the fall out if Obama loses.  Not only would people be upset all over the world, but this would throw a huge wedge in race relations and turn off an entire generation to politics.  If he’s up in the polls by a few points and loses, right or wrong, many will see it as an example of racism where people claim to be prObama, only to go behind the curtain and vote McCain.  Things would be really ugly for a long time, since he is clearly the much better candidate.  McCain’s throwing the kitchen sink at him and it’s not going to work.  There’s a reason why voters under 35 are overwhelmingly supporting Obama.  He’s the future.  McCain is the past.

Cop Mick’s shirt right here and check out the quick mixtape he put together with Terry Urban to launch the shirt:

  1. Mick Boogie/Terry Urban: Intro
  2. Daytona: Can I Kick It? (produced by Garbs Infinite)
  3. Mekka Don: Dear Obama (produced by Skinny Vee)
  4. Malik Yusef f/ Kanye West: Promised Land
  5. Ra The Mc: Ready Or Not (produced by Judah)
  6. Jus Mic: Politics As Usual
  7. Jin: Open Letter To Obama
  8. 6th Sense: Ignite The People (produced by 6th Sense)
  9. Doxx: Smile Sarah (produced by Remot)

Q-Tip – Move (video)

Posted in A Tribe Called Quest, Artists, Music Videos on October 15th, 2008 by Hyphen

New video for Tip’s “Move,” directed by the uber-busy Rik Cordero.  So let me get this straight: by filming a simple clip based on a style 25 years old (“I wanna rock with youuuuuu”), Rik and Tip made a better video than 95% of what rappers are dropping?  Artists on majors need to step their game up and try something different, even if it’s a nod to the past like “Move.”  Good ish.

Swiped from 2DopeBoyz.

Q-Tip – Gettin’ Up (official video)

Posted in A Tribe Called Quest, Artists, Music Videos on September 12th, 2008 by Hyphen

While an unofficial video for this leaked a while back, here’s the real deal.  I dig this song, but something about the Greg Nice style rhyming kinda annoys me, I can’t front.  Still good to see Tip coming with another album and it was dope to see him at Rock The Bells last weekend.  Here’s an ill pic of Mos Def pointing out Tip’s lyrics to “Excursions” as he spit ‘em.  Ill.

Mos & Tip

Shout to Dreezy for the great picture…

Q-Tip – Gettin’ Up (video)

New unofficial video for Tip’s “Gettin’ Up” single swiped from OKP.  Speaking of Q-Tip and Rock The Bells, despite a bit of a scare, it’s now confirmed: A Tribe Called Quest WILL be performing at RTB in Washington! Whew, that was a close one.  September 6th at the Gorge, be there!
