CunninLynguists – Nothing To Give (live)

Posted in Artists, CunninLynguists, Live Performances, Videos on October 29th, 2009 by Hyphen

Dope video from CL’s performance at the 2009 QN5 Megashow from NYC a few weeks back.  Deacon, Natti, and Kno performed their entire A Piece of Strange album (which is a certified hip-hop classic) with Club Dub backing them up.

Unfortunately, I don’t believe the band will be joining them on their upcoming tour, but regardless, you won’t want to miss this show when it rolls through your town.

Seattle folks: you can catch CL performing with Looptroop Rockers, the homey Tunji, and some of our hometown heroes, Grieves & Budo, on November 25th at Neumos.  Be there.

Ahahahahahaha, greatness.  Though to be fair, range is generally not our problem.  It’s every other skill set on the highest level, but we have jumpers for days.

CunninLynguists – Never Come Down (The Brownie Song) (video)

Posted in Artists, CunninLynguists, Music Videos on February 23rd, 2009 by Hyphen

Despite knowing absolutely nothing about the subject matter, the lead joint (no pun) from the CunninLynguists’ upcoming Strange Journey, Vol. One, is one of my favorite tracks out right now.  They just dropped the visuals for it and, as expected, they came out fresh.

Head on over to QN5.com for more info and also to download the track.

Is it strange that I’m a hip-hop dude who has never smoked (anything) once in my life?  Just never had any interest…[Full House moment] I get high on life [/moment].

Tunji – Still Risin’ (prod. by Kno)

Posted in Artists, CunninLynguists, Inverse, Joints on September 9th, 2008 by Hyphen

Tunj

If for some reason you didn’t download the 2 Dope Boyz mixtape last week, slap yourself and grab the no-DJ version of one of the best tracks on there, Tunji’s “Still Risin’.”  Sound Session listeners will recognize him from his Inverse material we’ve played over the last year, plus he’s the dude ripping our show intro every week.  Astute heads will also remember this beat originally being used for Kno’s “Get Buck” remix, but he shot it to Tunj to do it justice.

Tunj on the mic and Kno on the beat?  It’s a wrap…

The homey Substantial has been making crazy moves lately with his single, “It’s You (I Think),” off his Sacrifice album, and now he needs your help to keep the momentum going.  The video is one of five finalists in a MTVu contest, where the winner goes into regular rotation on the station.  It’s real easy to vote, and Stan deserves your support so get to it and vote as many times as you’d like!

TO VOTE:

1) GO HERE: http://www.mtvu.com/music/freshmen
2) Click VOTE next to Substantial’s “It’s You” video
3) Click VOTE AGAIN
4) Repeat steps 2-3 all as many times as you’d like!
5) Done

It’s just that simple folks.  If you don’t remember it from all the spins on Sound Session, listen to the song again and watch the video:

(these are all real stories in the verses btw)

Natti (of CunninLynguists) – Ruled The World (Kno’s Viva La Vida Remix)

Posted in Artists, Coldplay, CunninLynguists, Joints, Remixes on July 1st, 2008 by Hyphen

Natti and Chris

Whoooo, this is fire.  If you aren’t familiar with the CunninLynguists, you need to get up on the 3 man group from Kentucky/Atlanta ASAP.  They’re right up there with Outkast, Little Brother, Slum Village, the Roots, Inverse, and U-N-I as my favorite groups doing it today.  One of the MC’s, Natti, just paired up with their producer extraordinaire, Kno, to rework Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” record.  The result is an ill “cautionary tale about the decline of the ‘one-trick-pony’ rapper.”  Super fresh.
