As a prelude to their collab album, The Stimulus Package (February 16th, 2010), the big homey Jacob Wizzle links up with Freeway and Don Cannon to release The Beat Made Me Do It.  As J. Moore always says, “Freeway just loves to rap.”  And he’s exceptionally good at it.  Cop this immediately.

D. Black on Sound Session

Posted in Artists, Interviews, Jake One, Sound Session on September 3rd, 2009 by Hyphen

D. Black and the Sport’n Life crew came through Sound Session recently to talk all about D’s upcoming Ali’Yah album that drops on the 15th.  Always a pleasure to open the SNSS studio up to dope artists, but it’s especially fun to chill with good people.  Download the whole audio of the show right here.

D.Black, a Seattle-based rising hip-hop artist, took some time out to visit the good folks J. Moore and DJ Hyphen over at KUBE 93 for Sunday Night Sessions to speak about his newest release Ali’Yah. While talking about Ali’Yah, D.Black made special note of the increase in maturity and artistic development since his last album. That maturity is evident on such songs as the recently released “Yesterday,” the first single off Ali’Yah, and when asked about the song D.Black explained the concept saying, “All of us have had situations in our past that if we look back at it, we breathe life back into it. So it’s better to leave yesterday behind and look forward to tomorrow.” The positive vibe was reflected back by the fans as well as D.Black spoke with a few folks who called. D.Black also spoke on the opportunity he had to work with so many talented artists while crafting Ali’Yah, noting the contributions of fellow artists Jake One, Vitamin D, B. Brown, Melissa, Choklate, Spaceman, Kuddie Mak and many others. Be on the lookout for D.Black’s newest album Ali’Yah available September 15th via Sport’n Life Records/MYX Music Label.

Red Bull Big Tune viewing & listening party

Posted in Artists, J. Pinder, Jake One, Live Performances, Sound Session on July 27th, 2009 by Hyphen

People around the 206 know that I’m notorious for not going to many shows, but I may have to make an appearance this Wednesday at the Vera Project (in Seattle Center, right next to Key Arena).  As J. Moore, Jake One, Vitamin D, DV-One, and Markus do in every city that Big Tune hits, the entire week is filled with great events for the public and for the participants.  Since Seattle is the home of the event, you already know that we’ve got some dope stuff going on before this Friday’s battle at the War Room.

Case in point, hit up the Vera on Wednesday for a free show from The Physics, J. Pinder, and Spaceman, along with an exclusive video documenting the collaboration between last year’s Big Tune winner, C-Sick, and the legendary Nas.  See y’all there.

Mr. Peter Parker interviews Jake & Free

Posted in Artists, Jake One, Other Peoples' Interviews, Videos on June 2nd, 2009 by Hyphen

While at Rhymesayers’ epic Soundset Festival in Minnesota, the homey Peter Parker linked up with the other homies Jake One & Freeway for a quick chat about their upcoming album, The Stimulus Package.  If you thought White Van Music was a big record for Jake and for Seattle, wait till this one drops.  It’s gonna be a big moment for the merging of the commercial & underground scenes nationwide.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go destroy some folks on the soccer pitch in this lovely 80 degree Seattle weather.  [Jada] ah-HAAAAA [/Kiss]

Jake One ft. Vitamin D, C-Note, Maneak B, & Ish – Home (video)

Posted in Artists, J. Pinder, Jake One, Music Videos on May 27th, 2009 by Hyphen

Yessir!  It doesn’t get any more 206 than this one.  Big shout to everyone involved in this video, many of which are my favorite folks in this industry/community.  Great to see everyone get some shine and I’m still a little disappointed I wasn’t able to hit up the shoot too.  If I remember right though, I was coaching my 6th grade select squad to some Eastside ass-whooping, so it’s all good.  Would have been nice to get a little U-District/Ravenna repping though hahaha.  The end of this song (“peace out homey!!!”) will always be a great memory, as that soundbite was taken from one of our crazy SNSS callers when Jake was in the studio one night.  Classic.

Special props to Jake, Zia, & Pinder for doing a great job with this clip.  Townbidnassmane.

Pac Div, Knux, B.o.B, Charles Hamilton, Talib Kweli, Mistah F.A.B., Freeway, & Blu – Pepsi Mic Pass

Posted in Artists, B.o.B., Jake One, Live Performances, Pacific Division, Talib Kweli, The KnuX, Videos on May 19th, 2009 by Hyphen

Generally speaking, projects with this level of corporate organization/sponsorship turn out extra corny, but thanks to the talent assembled for the latest Pepsi Mic Pass video, this one came out dope.  All the live stuff was shot down in Austin at SXSW and you can see all sorts of folks in the background.  Town homies will recognize Dow Jones and Jake One especially…

Jake One wins Sound Magazine artist of the year

Posted in Artists, Jake One, Other Peoples' Interviews on December 17th, 2008 by Hyphen

(Watch in HD right here)

Yeah, I already posted up that interview we did with the big homey Jacob Wizzle, but since he was recently awarded “artist of the year” by Seattle’s Sound Magazine, I thought I’d post that up again if you missed it.  You can read more about that interview right here.

Also, be sure to head on over to Sound Mag’s site to read their ‘best of’ piece on Jake and some other great Seattle talent, though pretty much all non-hip-hop…[Jerry] not that there’s anything wrong with that [/Seinfeld].  Oh, and lots of quotes from yours truly were used in Jake’s piece.  Read all about it on page 66 in the digital edition.

Big shout to Katelyn for helping Jake get the town love he so rightly deserves.  Cop that White Van Music if you haven’t already!
