Kanye West – Coldest Winter (video)

Posted in Artists, Kanye West, Music Videos on February 24th, 2010 by Hyphen

Those ringwraiths from The Lord of the Rings are always bothering people.  Oh, and that dress appears to be a little too small.  That’s about all I have for this one.

Aziz Ansari’s Kanye Stories

Posted in Artists, Comedy, Kanye West, Live Performances, Videos on January 23rd, 2010 by Hyphen

I hope you caught Aziz’ Intimate Moments For A Sensual Evening special on Comedy Central from last week, but if not, here’s one of the highlights courtesy of NahRight.  Everything Kanye does is hilarious – I’ve been saying this since the first time Tunji and I met dude in LA in ‘02.

Travis Barker x Forever

This dude is so ill on the drums.  Ridiculous.  Download link courtesy of the Dopehouse.

Drake ft. Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Eminem – “Forever (Travis Barker Remix)”

Oh, and for the record: after further inspection, Lil Wayne remains thoroughly outclassed on this track.

Kanye West – Glow In The Dark tour book promo

Posted in Art, Artists, Kanye West, Live Performances, Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D., Videos on October 31st, 2009 by Hyphen

*Speechless*

This was the best concert I’ve ever been too and with everything going on that day (girl was in town, chilling with N.E.R.D., catching up with Lupe, etc.), it was probably one of my favorite days ever.  Ah, memories.

Someone buy me this book for Christmas.  Kthxbye.

Kanye West x Spike Jonze – We Were Once A Fairytale

Posted in Art, Artists, Kanye West, Mayer Hawthorne, Movies, Videos on October 18th, 2009 by Hyphen

This is crazy.

I don’t think anyone is on the same level as Kanye these days – musically, artistically, personally, etc..  There are a lot of different interpretations that you could pull from this short film, but I’d be interested in hearing your take.  Keep in mind, this was filmed before the MTV VMA incident and his decision to step out of the spotlight a bit.  What do you think?

Sidenote: peep the Mayer Hawthorne track playing during the “love” scene.  A-Side FTW!

Consequence ft. Kanye West & John Legend – Whatever U Want (video)

Posted in Artists, Consequence, John Legend, Kanye West, Music Videos on September 30th, 2009 by Hyphen

Man, it’s a shame this video didn’t drop a little earlier because the song and visuals would have been perfect for the summer.  I’m not sure I really like the stutter video effects, or if I really understand highlighting the hair spin maneuver, but I still dig the video and the song is flawless.  I could listen to those drums all day.

Drake ft. Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Eminem – Forever (video)

Posted in Artists, Basketball, Drake, Eminem, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, Music Videos, Sports on September 24th, 2009 by Hyphen

Honestly, this video is a little bit of a hot mess.  Hype’s shots just seem so boring these days, the performances aren’t anything special, and the clips from LeBron’s movie just make it all look odd.  Definitely would have been better served to not appear on the soundtrack and perhaps have a little more creativity with the scenes.  With my day job involving music videos, I see 10 cooler clips than this a day…which is pretty sad when you think about all the major players that were involved with this project.

That said:

“she insists she got more class…WE KNOW

is one of the hardest lines of the year.  Drizzy!

Jay-Z interview with Bill Maher

Posted in Artists, Comedy, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Other Peoples' Interviews on August 29th, 2009 by Hyphen

Pretty good interview if you’re looking to kill some time.  Bill’s a bit of a hip-hop head (no pun), but Jay’s laugh kinda reminds me of Kobe’s these days…seems so contrived.  Shrug.

Swiped from IllRoots.

Jamie Foxx ft. Drake, The-Dream, & Kanye West – Digital Girl (Remix) (video)

Posted in Artists, Drake, Kanye West, Music Videos on August 19th, 2009 by Hyphen

The video doesn’t do much for me (not really into girls looking like Destro), but the track is dope.  Well, the track is cool…and the verses from Drizzy and ‘Ye are fire.  Anyone who drops an “alt-tab” reference automatically wins, and Kanye’s verse is pretty much spot on.  “Even [his] superficial raps are super official.”  Not sure what’s up with the beat change during his verse for the video, but it’s cool.

And just to show you how far we’ve come in less than a decade of widespread technological assisted hook ups, I present Next’s classically bad computer-related sex track, “Cybersex”:

That’s right ladies…he wants your PC…to sit on his laptop.  “Oh technology, wow”…not one of RL’s finer moments.

Rashid Hadee – 808s & Hadee (mixtape)

Posted in Artists, Kanye West, Mixtapes, Rashid Hadee on August 16th, 2009 by Hyphen

I’ve been meaning to post this tape up for a minute, but better late than never.  For those of you who have been following me since my Beats, Rhymes, and Life mixtape series from back in the day, you might remember a track called “Watchin’ My Moves” from a crew called Chapter 13.  Though they’ve since moved on to solo projects, I’ve been a fan of Rashid Hadee and Young Valentine ever since I first heard their ish.  Shout to all the Neblina folks from those days…

These days, Hadee is easily one of the illest (and most slept on) MC’s/producers in the game.  Inspired by Kanye’s 808’s & Heartbreaks, he chopped up Kanye’s tracks and spit flames over each joint.  I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone ‘remix’ a project by chopping up every song and rapping over the whole thing…at least not this well.  Download this immediately, especially if you liked Kanye’s original work.

Honest Management presents the latest mixtape opus by the incomparable Rashid Hadee entitled Chopped Not Screwed Vol.1: 808’s & Hadee. Known as the go to producer of Chicago when you want that good ole soulful boom bap, Rashid Hadee has decided to pay homage to the home team on the first installment of his Chopped Not Screwed mixtape series. With lyricism that has garnered as much love and respect as his production Rashid Hadee shares with you his interpretation of an album he simply feels is honest (no pun intended). If you wonder why he chose 808’s to “chop not screw” instead of one of the more openly loved releases from Kanye’s college themed trilogy, Hadee will simply tell you “because 808’s & Heartbreak is pure genius!” Most would believe he’s on an obvious hometown bias trip but the commonalities of both artists are evident as well as the struggle so as a producer/rapper Hadee feels he relates to as well as understands the mind of Mr. West. Chopped Not Screwed keeps the features to a minimum, sharing mic time with a couple of members from his Chapter 13 crew (Augustine & Melatone), Decay of The Molemen and Chicago veterans Pugs Atomz and The Primeridian. Rashid Hadee has produced entire projects for internationally respected pioneering Chicago acts Abstract Mindstate, Thaione Davis and the aforementioned  Pugs Atomz as well as his own debut Neblina Records release entitled Dedication but Chopped Not Screwed Vol.1: 808’s & Hadee is about the artistic expression of the producer and the rapper.
