Um, the Canon 7D looks better than real life

Posted in Art, Goods, Videos on November 25th, 2009 by Hyphen

The new Canon 7D camera apparently shoots incredible video.  Peep this clip from aspiring filmmaker Brandon Moza walking around Vancouver, set to Radiohead’s “Go Slowly.”

It’ll cost you a pretty penny…emphasis on the pretty.

I have one of these…no biggie

Posted in Art, Goods, Videos on September 21st, 2009 by Hyphen

Wow.  This is easily the coolest pool table I’ve ever seen.  It’s a far cry from the one the homies and I used to rack every weekend at my friend Greg’s house.  Ah…the memories.

Spotted on the BBC Blog.

Sneaker Pimps Chicago Recap

Posted in Artists, Goods, Live Performances, The Clipse, Videos on August 30th, 2009 by Hyphen

The homey RTC and the Ruby Hornet fam put together this recap of the Sneaker Pimps even in Chicago last week.  I highly recommend all the Seattle folks to come out to our stop on the tour on September 10th:

The Clipse + Slick Rick + some of our best local artists?  Whooooooo.  We’ll be interviewing the Clipse too, so if you have any questions for them, let me know.

Thank you Acrylick fam!

Posted in Art, Goods on August 27th, 2009 by Hyphen

Big shout to the new homies over at one of the illest clothing lines around, Acrylick, for sending over some of their gear this week.  They really have a great knack for creating designs that are simple and refined, but still colorful and fresh.  Plus, they’re some true hip-hop heads so you already know the messages are on point (i.e., peep the “Too Many Mics, Not Enough Emcees” shirt above…cosign).  I’ll be rocking these heavy this fall, especially those windbreakers.

Make sure you check out their catalog and cop something.  Just like we all need to support good musicians, we should be supporting dope independent artisans in other areas of society too.  Shout to all the streetwear stores in the town as well, but again, huge thanks to Acrylick.

The Lupe Fiasco Show interview with Le Messie

Posted in Artists, Goods, Lupe Fiasco, Other Peoples' Interviews on March 15th, 2009 by Hyphen

Seeing as how my last post got someone riled up with my defense of Lupe, I thought this would be an appropriate follow up.  The home girl KayCee has been helping run the big Lupe blog on the net for a minute now and they just recently changed URL’s.  So not only is this post a reminder to hit their new site at TheLupeFiascoShow.com, but you can also head there now to read an interview with producer/clothing designer Le Messie.  He talks about his production on The Cool, Lupe’s clothing lines, and even touches on the mysterious Japanese Cartoon project that’s in the works.

Peep it all right here.

Repeal Prop. 8

Posted in Goods, News, Politics on November 8th, 2008 by Hyphen

repeal

As I mentioned earlier, Tuesday was an incredible day in history and damn near everyone/thing I was rooting for ended up winning (*crosses fingers for Al Franken’s recount*).  However, in the same day that we took a huge step towards equality by electing Barack Obama as our 44th President, Californians voted yes on Propisition 8 and banned gay marriage.  Again, the idea that one could vote for acceptance and discrimination on the same ballot is sickening, disappointing, and confusing.

People have been protesting in the streets all over California this past week and the court battles have just started.  It’s critical that they keep up that fight and it’s important for us non-Cali residents (*hides Cali driver’s license from WA DMV*) support as best we can.

One simple way is to cop these “Repeal Prop. 8″ t-shirts from ChunkyTees right here.  You can either buy one for $10, or more than 3 for $8 each, with all the money going to the cost of pressing and shipping them.  In other words, this isn’t a money making venture.  This is an important statement we can make to the world about equal rights.  Dr. King’s words have never been more true than they are today.

Mick Boogie x Dope Couture x A Tribe Called Quest

Posted in A Tribe Called Quest, Art, Barack Obama, Goods, Mixtapes, Politics on October 17th, 2008 by Hyphen

Can We Kick It

We’ve seen a bunch of dope Obama shirts over the last year, and here’s another one to add to the list thanks to Mick Boogie and Dope Couture.  Nothing is assured yet, but I’m so excited about the state of the presidential race right now.  I can’t even imagine the fall out if Obama loses.  Not only would people be upset all over the world, but this would throw a huge wedge in race relations and turn off an entire generation to politics.  If he’s up in the polls by a few points and loses, right or wrong, many will see it as an example of racism where people claim to be prObama, only to go behind the curtain and vote McCain.  Things would be really ugly for a long time, since he is clearly the much better candidate.  McCain’s throwing the kitchen sink at him and it’s not going to work.  There’s a reason why voters under 35 are overwhelmingly supporting Obama.  He’s the future.  McCain is the past.

Cop Mick’s shirt right here and check out the quick mixtape he put together with Terry Urban to launch the shirt:

  1. Mick Boogie/Terry Urban: Intro
  2. Daytona: Can I Kick It? (produced by Garbs Infinite)
  3. Mekka Don: Dear Obama (produced by Skinny Vee)
  4. Malik Yusef f/ Kanye West: Promised Land
  5. Ra The Mc: Ready Or Not (produced by Judah)
  6. Jus Mic: Politics As Usual
  7. Jin: Open Letter To Obama
  8. 6th Sense: Ignite The People (produced by 6th Sense)
  9. Doxx: Smile Sarah (produced by Remot)

Download here.  (ZShare has been acting up in the last few days, so we’ll see if this link stays ‘under maintenance’ for long)
