The Audacity of Dope

I spent last week in Los Angeles and just like I say after every trip there, half of the city is awesome and half is horrible.  I’ll spare you the lowlights, but on the positive tip, shout to all the folks I spent time with: at ESPN’s LA office, at the Hard Knock TV annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament, and at the BET Awards functions.  Despite losing in the championship game of the hoops tourney, we had a great time and we’re definitely looking forward to the next one.  Along with hoops, the other highlight was definitely a trip to Disneyland.  I hadn’t been in about 20 years since I was a little kid and it really is the happiest place on earth.  Go there, with or without kids.  You’ll have a great time.

Another insanely hectic week in the books, but Sound Session is back like we never left…cause we haven’t.  Episode #341 marks our final show of 2011 since next Sunday is Christmas (oh yeah…I should probably get on that whole “shopping” thing…), so after this, we’ll see y’all in 2012 with our best of ’11 wrap up edition.  Don’t miss it!

In the immortal words of Hov, “it was all good just a week ago.”  Last Monday, I was enjoying the start of my vacation with sun, soccer, and the prospect of being out of the office for a few days.  This week, it’s rainy, my vacation is over, and I’m stuck at home with a little cold.  This is where you bring up #firstworldproblems…

On the plus side, once I recover from this cold and finish the week, I’ll be starting my new day job at ESPN next Monday.  As a result of their “Rookie Camp” orientation at Bristol’s headquarters, I’ll be missing SNSS next week but J. While J. Moore repped Seattle to the fullest with Shabazz Palaces at the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago, I held down the SNSS fort with the intern, Young Nick (aka Beeba) back here in the 6.  Another week, another fun show full of great music.  This time, we highlighted work from folks like Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Don Trip, Purple HeArts, The Black Opera, Nikki Jean, The Weeknd, Tall Black Guy, and more.  Of course we also played the underground hero, Big K.R.I.T., who I got the honor of choppin’ it up with at our Summer Jam on Saturday.  Peace to his crew (Dutch, Wally, & Sant) and shout to the other homies we ran into, B.o.B, Playboy Tre, B. The Brothers From Another are back home from their first year away from college and I really couldn’t be more impressed with the young homies for this one. Ah, reminds me of my days coming back to the 6 after spending the school year in Los Angeles.
