I know I’m a little late on this, especially since I’ve been bumping the tape non-stop ever since OU sent it out, but better late than never.  Outasight is one of my favorite artists these days and this project shows exactly why.  He’s a dope MC, vocalist, and is forward thinking with his art.  Plus he’s just a cool dude.  Download this immediately:

Congrats to Outasight for recently signing to Asylum/Warner Bros. Records as well.  I hear the head of WBR is personally really excited about the signing, so it looks like they might actually give him the push he deserves in 2010…

The homey Cook, or as I know him, Will from Pomona (5-C’s represent, represent), just dropped off this fresh beat tape, mixed by DJ Seano.  Every time I hear Cook’s beats, I’m more and more impressed.  There are so many ill layers to these…it’s just up to the right artists to sprinkle the right spices and make some classic dishes.

This ain’t your mama’s crusty old beat tape! These are The Original Recipes – a collection of Cook Classics beats from the last few years. We managed to plug about 40 beats into a twenty minute set by the incredible DJ Seano. The tape starts with hip hop, but by the end you’ll be dancing like a teeny-bopper to some serious pop and uptempo production. To all the beat-jacking loop builders out there, we kindly introduce the funky chicken and our favorite lazer sounds to make your life just a little more difficult. Remember, this is only a small selection of hundreds of Cook beats, so if you want to work, hit me up! It’s time to cook, biatch!

I’ve been waiting for Daytona’s official album to drop for a minute and the day is finally here.  Don’t get it twisted either…despite my blog tag calling Come Fly With Me a mixtape, this is indeed a full length project full of original material…and it’s dope as hell.  Peep the press release if you need to get up to speed on Daytooooooooona and then download the project below.

New York, NY – The Kid Daytona, born in Atlanta, GA to a set of Caribbean parents, grew up with a unique blend of cultural identities, which was only further expanded by his teenage years in The Bronx, NY. It was these formative years in New York’s northern borough that led The Kid Daytona to his current path as a musician — and the June 30th release of his full length studio album, Come Fly With Me.

The flight path leading  to the release of Come Fly With Me has been a long one. The Kid Daytona attained early success when his group The Aces was signed to Atlantic Records in 2002. Though the group dismantled shortly thereafter, Daytona managed to establish himself in the eyes of legendary MC Busta Rhymes, who quickly enlisted the young artist for a role in Flipmode Squad. In addition to Busta Rhymes, Daytona has also been blessed with the guidance of Cipha Sounds (Hot 97 WQHT), who has helped create the dynamic artist that appears on Come Fly With Me.  Daytona and Cipha started out by releasing A Tribe Called Fresh in 2008,  which garnered the attention of major media outlets like The Fader. Daytona explains that, “the success of the Tribe tape helped me realize it was time to put an official album together. I want people to be able to hear my music, and this is best way for me to make that happen – by making it available, and doing it well.”

On Come Fly With Me, The Kid Daytona shares airspace with musical superstars such as Bun B (UGK), Kardinal Offishall, and seasoned newcomers such as Mickey Factz, Amanda Diva, Harlem’s Cash, Outasight, and more. Production credits for the album include 6th Sense, Double 0 (Kidz In The Hall), Cook Classics, Jet Audio, Ill Bomb, The Government, and Deputy.

Both Come Fly With Me and its single, “Contact” featuring Kardinal Offishall, will be distributed digitally by Community JUICE beginning Tuesday, June 30, 2009.

Notice I didn’t call it a ‘mixtape’ hahah.  Outasight is a really talented artist coming out of NYC and he just teamed up with 6th Sense and Mick Boogie to drop this prequel before his official album is released.  There are all sorts of talented folks making appearances on this (Tunji, Cook Classics, Donny Goines, Oddisee, etc.), so you should already know.

Hahaha, Tunj is hilarious.  I remember GregTheDude shot me this video along with the earlier clip of Tunj freestyling with Cook about the New Classics mixtape the night he did ‘em.  While the first free was dope, I was sad this one didn’t get released too…until now.

The Vimby x UpOnThingz mixtape, The New Classics, dropped last week as a streamable project on iMeem, but it’s 2009…and that just doesn’t quite cut it these days. Here’s the full project for download, featuring incredible production from the homey Cook Classics and appearances by some of the best rising talent in the game: Shawn Jackson, Outasight, Avriel Epps, Emilio Rojas, Buff1, TiRon, Inverse, Pacific Division, 6th Sense, U-N-I, Convinced, Fashawn, and many, many more. GregTheDude gave me a sneak peak of this last night…pause…but now it’s officially ready for the world to see.  Greg + Tunji + Cook = Claremont Colleges talent at its finest, but y’all don’t know about that.

What you do know, however, is that it’s becoming quite evident that Tunj is a beast.  Here he runs down the artists appearing on the upcoming VIMBY mixtape in freestyle form.  If you’re up on your 5-C’s trivia, this will remind you of his classic Pomona-Pitzer bball intro.  Ah, the good ol’ days.
