OlymPICS wrap up from the Big Picture

Closing Ceremonies

Fireworks over the Bird’s Nest during the Closing Ceremonies

The Big Picture followed up their excellent shots of the Opening Ceremonies with a set of wrap up pictures from the Olympics.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Usain Bolt

The star of the Games, Usain Bolt, dusting the field in the 200m.

Lolo Jones

Lolo Jones after her heartbreaking loss in the 100m hurdles.

Matthew Mitcham

Australia’s Matthew Mitcham still can’t believe he won gold with a flawless final dive in the 10m platform.

good to see you giving Matty Mitcham some shine!
as the only openly gay male athlete at the whole Games, Matt deserved respect even before his first dive. the gold medal is the icing on the cake.

Oh word, he’s gay? I didn’t even know that, although when the cameras were capturing his reaction after that last dive, that is the thought that popped into my head. I’m glad he’s open about it, good for him.

I couldn’t believe how that final ended…the Chinese guy didn’t mess up all day and he makes ONE mistake. Then Mitcham hits the PERFECT dive to win. Incredible. That dude is dope

apparently NBC kept it quiet: “According to Outsports.com, NBC never mentioned that he’s gay on its television broadcast. That’s a surprise; NBC is constantly looking for unique qualities of athletes for its human interest profiles.” *rolls eyes*

i’m an Aussie, and things aren’t kept as hush-hush down here 🙂

it was definitely an epic final!

That’s wild, thanks for the info man. I wish my country could be progressive enough to mention that, especially if he’s the ONLY openly gay athlete there. How is that not a story over here? Wow.
