Drake ft. Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and Eminem – Forever (video)
Honestly, this video is a little bit of a hot mess. Hype’s shots just seem so boring these days, the performances aren’t anything special, and the clips from LeBron’s movie just make it all look odd. Definitely would have been better served to not appear on the soundtrack and perhaps have a little more creativity with the scenes. With my day job involving music videos, I see 10 cooler clips than this a day…which is pretty sad when you think about all the major players that were involved with this project.
That said:
“she insists she got more class…WE KNOW“
is one of the hardest lines of the year. Drizzy!

I’ve commented previously that Drake’s resounding, organic buzz is similar to the uprisings of 50 & Jeezy, except witnessed/powered by Web 2.0. That said, while Jeezy’s 1st solo vid “And Then What†targeted his demo well and 50s “Wanksta†vid perfectly (and w/minimal cost) introduced his villain persona (the Ja Rule doll? Ha!), Drake’s only 1 for 3, imo.
Tho overblown, the criticism of “Best I Ever Had†makes sense – it’s a tongue-in-cheek ladies song but the soft core vid turned off every woman I know who saw it, not the best way to advance the ladies man persona. “Successful†was dope but too low-key to erase “Best I Ever Had†and it seems clear that w/this song and Hype @ the helm, they were going for the “can’t miss.†Instead, they got “Hype’s explosions†and by letting Em go last and hear everyone’s verses before he did his (so the story goes) pretty much ensured he’d ether everyone, which most everyone (except Drake) seems to agree he did.
Not that any of this is going to hurt his chances for super-stardom, but if he’s going to go supernova, he needs a solo hit and the vid to push it correctly. Here’s hoping…
Lol so true so true, the only part of this video that had me saying “wow” was when I seen Em with Slaughterhouse
I do not see or hear the skills that everyone claims Drake has. He is the weakest link on this song, and his album was whack. I just see him as a comet…shooting across the sky for a short time.
I got to see LeBron when we were both in high school at a friends game….retarded skills at 16. Being able to see skills that rare in person is simply amazing & to see him now is incredible to think we’re the same age. But yeah, why are his clips in this? Random.
Lebron’s clips are in this cause it’s from the soundtrack to his new movie…and I couldn’t disagree more on Drake. No way is he the weakest link on this song, his “album” was actually a mixtape, it was so far from “wack,” etc. Dude is legit and spits better than 90% of the cats out there. Plus he can make good songs, so that automatically puts him in the upper echelon right now.
I had to listen to the song a few more times, undistracted from work, so I retract what I said, Drake is actually good on this track, but I need more than this. Plenty of mixtape tracks make albums, just depends on how good it is. I’m waiting on Wayne to put a song from one of his mixtapes onto his next album…forget what it’s called but I listened to the sample about 50x in a day just working. Who you know helps too though, gotta admit that.
