Michael Essien’s 2006 wonderstrike vs. Arsenal (video)

Posted in Sports, Videos on October 29th, 2011 by Hyphen

It’s the eve of another London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea, but before I get some sleep, I thought about one of my favorite moments from this rivalry: Michael Essien’s unbelievable 30 yard strike in 2006. While the game ended in a 1-1 draw, it was one of the most exciting matches I’ve ever seen. World class talent all over the pitch, an intense rivalry, and huge stakes all culminated in this late game tying goal.  To come up from right back, where he was only filling in from his natural defensive midfield position, to slam a shot like that off the post and in…unreal.  Definition of a stunning strike.

Daniel Sturridge’s audacious backheel vs. Sunderland (video)

I can’t believe he even attempted this, let alone that it went in.  You’ll want to watch until the final replay for a close look at how he pulled it off.

The first touch was sublime

Posted in Sports, Videos on September 21st, 2009 by Hyphen

Fast forward to 3:13 to see the build up for a truly incredible goal from the big homey Didier Drogba.  Everything about it – Ashley Cole’s long ball, Didier’s first touch, his strength and balance, and perhaps a lucky bounce after Corluka’s tackle – combined to make this a flawless moment from yesterday’s 3-0 win by Chelsea over Tottenham.  The Blues are not only looking like the team to beat in the EPL, but they could quite easily be the best in the world.

The scary thing is that Spurs actually played pretty well…and still got hammered.  Despite the lopsided scoreline, it was a great match to watch.  Top notch football at its best.

Sidenote, your boy has been playing well recently too.  Dropped in 2 goals and 2 assists in a game yesterday FTW…

LMFAO – La La La (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on August 31st, 2009 by Hyphen

I already know what you’re thinking: did Hyphen really just post a LMFAO video on TAOD?

Yeah, I did…here’s why:

  1. I’m currently infatuated with Jonna from the Real World Cancun (strangely, this obsession started after the threesome episode that aired last week…hmmmm) and she’s looking great in this clip.  KW did point out that she clearly didn’t get the “video girls don’t have to kiss the artist” memo though.
  2. Chelsea from the Paradiso Girls isn’t that bad either (she’s killing the Kelly Kapowski look here…I approve).
  3. The theme is a nod to the late John Hughes.
  4. Keytar dude, keytar.
  5. And, to be honest, I kinda like this song.  Sue me.  That hook is a smash.

Maybe I’m watching too many of these Euro dance videos that come across my desk at the day job, I dunno.

Quick!  Somebody make a generic, wannabe Premo beat that reminds me of the Rawkus days so I can tighten my Jansport.

That was to tie it, and this was the winner in injury time:

Robin van Persie > you

Posted in Sports, Videos on November 30th, 2008 by Hyphen

Yeah, it was offsides, but that finish was still ill.  Plus, we all know Robin hates his right foot, so that makes it even doper.  And “le double” on his more familiar left:

If the Gunners can play the mid-table teams the way they played Chelsea and Manchester United, this could be an incredible 4 team EPL title race.  RvP’s the man.  Shout to the homey Didier though…when he gets back in form, Chelsea should be the favorite.
