Drake – November 18th (live in Houston)

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on May 9th, 2009 by Hyphen

Ok, granted that he’s performing his H-Town anthem in H-Town (one of my former residences by the way), but it’s crazy how Drake doesn’t even need to rap/sing any of his lyrics already.  These fans know every single word and just like the last time, this same phenomenon plays out every single night he performs.  Every time I play this joint on SNSS we get immediate calls on it and folks even email later asking what it was.  It’ll be crazy to see how big (pause) Drizzy is by the end of the year.

Drake – Best I Ever Had (live)

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on April 20th, 2009 by Hyphen

I mentioned this at the end of last night’s SNSS (which I’ll post up late tonight), so I thought I’d toss up the video for y’all.  Drake took NYC by storm at the end of last week and closed it out with a live show at SUNY Purchase.  If you weren’t convinced that this dude is going to be a huge star, watch how the audience is singing/rapping every word to “Best I Ever Had” like it’s the biggest song out right now.  Oh…and it was girls too…so you know Drizzy is gonna blow the hell up this summer.

Asher Roth – Be By Myself (live)

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on April 8th, 2009 by Hyphen

LOL @ comparisons between Em and Asher right now.  Asher’s actually making songs.  Em’s making the same joke of a single for the 6th time.  Shrug.

This is the next single by the way, featuring Cee-Lo if you couldn’t tell.  Footage shot by the homey Tunji and the alley oop from GregTheDude.

Asher Roth x Peter Parker x Freestyle x Flip Cup

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Other Peoples' Interviews, Videos on April 3rd, 2009 by Hyphen

Big shout to Peter Parker at B96 in Minneapolis (one of the few DJ’s at a big station riding out for good music like we do on Sound Session) for shooting this over and for shouting out the site during the interview.  Glad you enjoy the bloggy blogg homey!

I hope everyone is ready for a month full of seeing Asher everywhere.  With Asleep In The Bread Aisle dropping on 4-20, he’s going to get a lot of press in the coming weeks and it’s really all deserved.  Dude is a dope MC and a cool ass dude, so those with the unnecessary hate can [Jay-Z] go thaaaaataway [/Hov].  Be sure to head on over to MrPeterParker.com on Tuesday the 7th to cop an exclusive mixtape from Asher and Peter, and if you missed his appearance on SNSS a few weeks ago, click here.

Charles Hamilton, Donny Goines, Mistah F.A.B., & Shad x SXSW

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on March 28th, 2009 by Hyphen

I told y’all these cyphers were breaking out everywhere down in Austin.  This pretty much sums up the kind of vibe that SXSW carries…everyone was just down there having a good time and people were all about their music.  Fabby Davis Jr. murdered this by the way.

Homeboy Sandman, P. Casso, & Von Pea – SXSW Cypher

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on March 28th, 2009 by Hyphen

I’m pretty sure I walked right by this as it was winding down and I was hustling in to the Nah Right & Smoking Section Showcase in Austin.  These kind of impromptu cyphers were breaking out all over the city just cause the vibe was like this all weekend.  Shout to Sandman, P. Casso, Low Key, and the Hip-Hop Official folks, all of whom I met for the first time down there (the shout to Tanya Morgan goes without saying!).

U-N-I x SXSW

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on March 27th, 2009 by Hyphen

I told y’all that I’m all about these SXSW recap clips.  Chillin’ with the homies Y-O and Thurz in Austin was definitely one of my highlights, and as you can briefly see in the clip above, Theo also traveled down with ’em.  Very dope to meet another one of the up and coming MC’s in the game.

Shout to DRG Films for producing all these dope U-N-I clips recently.  Remember, A Love Supreme drops on the 31st!!!!

Exile & DJ Day – Dope Man (live in Seattle)

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on March 26th, 2009 by Hyphen

Here’s some footage shot by the legendary JKim at the Seattle release party for Exile’s Radio at Nectar Lounge.  This was a dope night all around – DJ Day and Ex killed their set, and I judged the Qualified Beat Battle.  Congrats again to the winner, Ohmega Watts, and shout to all those involved with putting on a great night.

Be on the lookout for Exile’s appearance on SNSS soon…more homies who were down at SXSW!

Janelle Monae x Blu x Exile x GregTheDude x SXSW

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on March 26th, 2009 by Hyphen

There’s a good chance that a lot of my posts for the next few weeks will be SXSW related, but that’s what happens when you have one of the best weeks of your life.  It’s fun to reminisce…sue me!

The homey GregTheDude was down in Austin as well and we were able to kick it a few times.  One of which was during the above performance of “Smile” by Janelle Monae at Vice Bar on the last night.  Greg’s always thinking ahead with his videos and flipping this in the “tall” mode came out type ill.  G, when are you gonna post the footage of Janelle surfing right over you?

If that’s not enough for you, check out Blu rocking the first verse of “Dancing In The Rain” with Exile at Malverde (one of my favorite venues down there) for the Creme de la Creme showcase.  Swapped in the CDQ audio, but the visuals are still clean as hell.  Shout to the homey Playboy Tre in the background!

I’m already looking forward to SXSW 2010.  Noooooo doubt.
