More Northwest talent, this time from Canary Sing, a Seattle group featuring the homey (and fellow Bumbershoot advisory board member) Hollis, aka Wong Weezy. I’m loving the sample – shout to Thirstin Howl III – and Wes Goodlife did a nice job on the direction. Dope ish.

I’m curious to see if Sean breaks through in 2010 (assuming his official debut does indeed drop). I think he certainly has potential and I’d never bet against G.O.O.D. Music, but I wonder if he’ll be able to make the jump. I would love to see a MC like Sean get major radio and video love, and all it’s going to take is the right record.

I love that I can follow up a post on design reform geared towards the triple bottom line with a hip-hop video/song that’s hard as f**k. Such is, TAOD.
Anyway, I think Till The Casket Drops had a few sub-par moments (only for the Clipse’s high standards), but the highlights are 3 of the best tracks of the past year: “Kinda Like A Big Deal,” “Popular Demand,” and now “Freedom.” Malice’s verse is nice, but Pusha slaughtered it. He owns you all.

Brand new video from Tacoma’s Todd Sykes & EvergreenOne (directed by Erik Soderquist), providing yet another example of the dope talent we have up here in the Pacific Northwest. I really dig the music I’ve heard from these guys so far. Fun loving, boom-bap inspired hip-hop from the heart. You can’t go wrong.

One of my favorite songs off Sean P’s Kimbo Slice tape gets the video treatment as part of Court Dunn & NahRight’s One Shot series. Nice little concept and they executed it’s well. The verses are complete fire too. All 3 mc’s kill it, but Sean really bodies the track. Calling out “white women who listen to Lyfe Jennings” was the clincher.
I must say, the video effects are slightly off-putting, but with a song as good as this, I don’t mind. Off the excellent Machine Dreams and also one of the tracks that made our Sound Session Best of 2009 edition. Yukimi is the truth.
I need to find some time to get our interview with Little Dragon posted up…I swear it’s coming soon. I hope.
I’ll be honest, I’m swamped with work these days so I haven’t watched this entire bio, but I still felt the need to toss it up here on TAOD. Y’all should be up on Ali Vegas, but if not, peep the video to see what he’s all about. I still remember the first time I heard “The Specialist” on the In Too Deep Soundtrack in ’99 and being blown away. I’m not sure if he’ll ever realize his full potential and reach the lofty goals we all seemed to set for him (“y’all critics got a lot of nerve, I’m [Nas] to the third”), but one thing’s for sure: dude can rhyme.
People who know me in real life have probably heard me wax poetic about my recent trip to San Diego and how I’ve been inspired to put some more care into my crib. It’s always been nice, but I think it’s time I really take it to the next level. Next up is a new HD TV…perhaps even copping later today.
After all, as Muhsinah reminds us, “home is where the heart is.”
