The Audacity of Dope

The amount of dope MC’s that have come from North (and South) Carolina since 2000 has been incredible.  I remember those Napster days where after discovering Little Brother, I kept branching out and finding related artists, all of which were killing it.  From LB to the Justus League to TheThyrDay to Supastition, etc., and the latest group to really carry the NC torch is Kooley High.

They’ve been favorites of mine for a few years and they just dropped the visuals for the title track off their recent mixtape.  If you haven’t peeped the tape yet, grab it here and stop sleepin…

Just in case the last post didn’t do it for you (or your girl), here’s the title track to Goapele’s upcoming album.  Ridiculously grown and sexy…I absolutely love this song.

Honestly, I was hoping for a little more than a 9 song album after waiting so long for Max’s return, but on the plus side, those 9 tracks are fire.  Here’s the 2nd video off the project, following up to the excellent “Pretty Wings.”  If BLACKsummers’night doesn’t get your girl in the mood, you’re losing.

Running around like crazy the past few days, but I definitely had to toss the new video from the big homey S-K-Y, Z-O-O up on TAOD.  It’s the first look from his upcoming album, The Salvation, and it’s produced by 9th Wonder.  Dopeness.

Yo…my people are DOIN’ IT y’all!

It’s so great to see two of my favorite people in the industry, Thurz & Y-O, really start to take off and make some major moves.  This track was produced by Ro Blvd (who gets a quick cameo in the clip as well), but it’s not from their Love Supreme project.  Instead, it was a special song and video commissioned by Mountain Dew’s Green Label Sound, closely affiliated with the FADER Label and my folks at Cornerstone.  Just like our collaboration with GLS, the project turned out great and this clip is yet another stellar music video in U-N-I’s library.  Do your thing fellas…

Sidenote, be on the lookout for the official Love Supreme documentary coming soon from DRG Films.  You just might recognize one of your favorite DJ’s as the narrator…nomorganfreemano.

When Zumbi & Amp dropped The Take Over, we played the hell out of this record on Sound Session.  The beat is pretty simple, but when paired with that hook, it’s insanely catchy.  Overall, it’s definitely one of my favorite songs of the past year.

Kay Slay should be on the remix though.  Just cause.

When we caught up with DJ A-Trak this past weekend, we talked about how this track came together, since it’s kind of an interesting story.  It’s not every day that a joint originates as a fun mixtape track, only to turn into an official single (and a follow up to a smash record) just a few months later.  I bet Lady GaGa is enjoying any $$ she makes off this…

Fresh new visuals for Mr. J. Medeiros’ “Holding On” off his upcoming Friends Enemies Apples Apples album.  Ever since I first met the Procussions years ago, they’ve always been some of my favorite folks to chop it up with.  Not only is J a dope artist but he’s always down for a deep thought provoking convo, which you just can’t get with most of this industry…
