Drake – Started From The Bottom (video)

I love that Drizzy had everyone thinking this was a(n attempt at a) hard, street record and then when the video drops, we see it open with kids playing soccer and extended comedic scenes with his boys.  Even when it gets a little darker at the end, it’s still centered around laughs with his homies.  Be careful with putting the whole team on though, Drizzy.  Go ask Hammer.

Also, this video solidifies Drake as the unequivocal king of unintentionally hilarious video faces.  He’s gotta be in on it at this point, right?

Drake – Headlines (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on October 4th, 2011 by Hyphen

It seems like my Twitter timeline and most of my homies love to clown Drake and I suppose he’s a fairly easy target, but basically, aside from Yeezy, he’s probably my favorite artist around these days.  I’m excited to hear what Take Care sounds like on the 24th (or the week before with the bootleggery) and I have a feeling that as we move in to the heart of cuffing season with a long winter and no NBA, we’re all gonna be listening to a lot of Drake & The Weeknd these next few months.  Don’t fight it.

Drake talks “The Calm”

5 mic personal classic mixtape, no question about it.  I’m a firm believer that if a particular album provides the soundtrack for your life at a certain important point, you’ll always hold it in a special regard.  And a refresher for the song in question, if you need it:

Alicia Keys – Un-thinkable (I’m Ready) (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on May 12th, 2010 by Hyphen

Wow.  Do they make ’em any better than Alicia?

Drake gets much respect for writing this song as well.  I’ve always thought the “is Drake dope?” argument is silly, in part because there are very few MC’s that could write a song like this.  Ultimately, much of what Drake touches turns into good music, much like this song.
