Dom Kennedy – My Type Of Party (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on June 23rd, 2012 by Hyphen

And speaking of Dom, here are the visuals for the lead single off the Yellow Album.  DJ Dahi killed this beat and the verses, especially the second, are hilarious and classic Dom (“I don’t even drink soda!”).  Hey, when it ain’t broke…don’t fix it.

Freddie Gibbs ft. Dom Kennedy & Polyester – Menace II Society (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on December 18th, 2011 by Hyphen

Freddie’s ode to the West Coast…the best coast…off Cold Day In Hell gets some nice visuals featuring producer/crooner Polyester and Dom Kennedy, who really epitomizes the current iteration of the west coast G sound.  Definitely a smooth record that makes any of us stuck in the cold northwest region pine for that LA weather.

Win tickets to see Dom Kennedy in Vancouver on August 24th!

Posted in Artists, Live Performances on August 17th, 2011 by Hyphen

Every day, another person asks me what I’ve been listening to recently and most of the time, I default with “whatever we’re playing on Sound Session.”  It’s an easy answer since it’s true and there’s just too much music being released to keep everything top of mind.  Recently, I’ve switched it up a bit because there are a few artists killing it to such a degree that I’ve found myself listening to their projects over and over.  One such artist is Los Angeles’ Dom Kennedy, who is quietly writing a blueprint for independent success without a major cosign.

If you haven’t checked out his past few releases, you’re missing out on some of the dopest music around, especially for these west coast summer days.  I can’t recommend The Original Dom Kennedy and the two editions of From the Westside With Love enough.  Cop ’em now!

Dom will be performing in Vancouver on Thursday, August 24th, and thanks to our friends at Fortune Sound Club, we’ve got one pair of tickets to give out here on TAOD.  Whether you live in Van City or you’re a fellow Seattle resident able to make the drive up, if you want to check out the show, just answer the question below by emailing me – – and I’ll pick out a winner on Sunday, the 21st:

Question:  According to one of Dom’s singles, in what year did he write his first rhyme?

If you know the answer and can go to the show, hit me up!  Along with Dom’s performance, they’ll be celebrating the 4 year anniversary of The Freshest, one of the illest DJ collectives around.  It’s gonna be a great night…

Dom Kennedy – Grind’n (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on June 11th, 2011 by Hyphen

While I was down in Los Angeles this past week for E3, it made me remember my college days down there and I can’t front, I miss that SoCal vibe from time to time.  Thankfully, there are videos like this one from Dom’s upcoming West$ide II project to help me reminisce.

Dom Kennedy – 1997 (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on July 8th, 2010 by Hyphen

This record is so ill…

1997 was a great year too.  I was 15 and life really couldn’t have been better.  Well, maybe it was the best around 17 or 18, but you catch my drift.  Not to say that life goes downhill after high school or college, but for all the benefits of growing older and wiser, there are certainly some things that you’ll never get back.  Such is life, and it’s always fun to use joints like this to reminisce.
