(I feel your pain man. The $100 Bentley fill ups are killing me too.)
CNN featured a fluff nice piece on Antwan recently, highlighting his politically charged video for “Sumthin’ Gotta Give.” I’m pleasantly surprised to see a network actually run a positive story about his beliefs, especially after Fixed News did their best xenophobic reporting on Luda last week. Sidenote: the massive Obama attack and smear campaign that we all expected is just kicking off. We have a long way to go, and the attacks will only get uglier and more illogical. This is when we have to work extra hard to dispell rumors and innuendo, so let’s all stay focused. gObama.
(did I see John Legend making 2 quick cameos in there?)
Now this is the kind of single we need on the airwaves. Saw this on OnSmash and was gonna hold off on posting because it’s got an awful hiss in the audio, but I figured I’d forget if I waited a few days. Besides, it’s dope as hell to see this kind of message coming from top tier artists. See Luda, that’s how you do it. Although, I did have to chuckle at Mary as the community organizer, but it’s still cool. You know she couldn’t wait to rhyme “drama” with “Obama” too…that’s right in her wheelhouse.
Here’s the mp3, without Drama’s completely unnecessary intro, for y’all if you need it:
I’ve been meaning to post this up for a week now, but better late than never. In a speech on July 15th, Barack laid out his policy on the war in Iraq and national security in general, in part to quell these nonsensical accusations that he’s flip-flopped on the issue. From day one, he’s maintained the same ideas and principles, and stated them numerous times. I’m tired of people complaining that Barack is just spouting empty rhetoric without any substance, only because they’re too lazy to do any research and dig past the soundbites they hear on TV. It’s imperative that you take the time to seek out more than the 30 second clips on the news, or the intentionally simplified stump speeches. I highly encourage everyone to read his last book, The Audacity of Hope (which you should be up on if you made your way to this URL), and the policies laid out on his website here. It’s all there if you’re willing to educate yourself.
In short, the 5 goals Obama outlined for his national security strategy in this speech are:
Ending the war in Iraq responsibly
Finishing the fight against Al Qaeda and the Taliban
Securing all nuclear weapons and materials from terrorists and rogue states
Achieving true energy security
Rebuilding our alliances to meet the challenges of the 21st century
He explains the importance and strategy for each goal in the speech, and in even more detail on his site. Take the time to educate yourself, especially if you think he’s peddling empty hopes and dreams. There is real substance here. It’s correct, and drastically different from what McCain is proposing.
It’s 2:30 in the morning and I just got home from the Wyclef/Kardinal Offishall concert, which still has my ears POUNDING. I’m only posting up this new video for Young Jeezy’s “Put On” for 2 reasons. One, I wanted to show y’all I managed to survive a crazy hectic few days (including our Summer Jam – watch all sorts of recaps here and find me in person for a million behind the scenes stories). Two, Kanye’s verse is really dope. Unfortunately, the first 3 minutes of the song are all Jeezy and filled with more wack lyrics than any other single song performance this year. Look at it like Yin and Yang, if you will.
I’ll have (extensive) interviews with The Game, Kardinal, and Clef coming in the next week, so be on the lookout for those. And to explain the title of this entry, me and the homey Lala registered 71 new voters at Summer Jam, 99% of which will be voting for Obama in the fall. I put onnnnnnnnnnnnnnn…
The man, the myth, the John Legend, called into Sound Session this week to talk all about his upcoming Evolver album. With D’Angelo on his seemingly endless sabbatical, I think John is officially my favorite R&B singer, so it was an honor to have him on the show for a second time. He dropped back to back classic LP’s (garnering 5 Grammy Awards in the process) and I don’t think there’s another singer making such consistently exceptional music. If Evolver‘s lead single, “Green Light” with Andre 3000, is any indication, it looks like he’s got another classic on his hands.
We discussed the direction of the project, what it’s like working with Kanye West, his involvement in Barack Obama’s campaign, his own charity work, future projects, and more. I’ll be airing portions of the interview on tonight’s show, but you can check out the full conversation here:

Yesterday, Barack and Hillary finally made their first campaign appearance together to help unite the party. In the aptly named town of Unity, New Hampshire, they talked about the importance of coming together to make sure that Barack gets in the White House. This election is simply too important to let any petty differences get between us. It’s good to see that Clinton’s supporters are rallying behind Obama, and with everyone on the same page, we’re going to dominate come November.
Today is the day for those “Unite For Change” house parties I told y’all about last week. Hopefully you’re attending one in your area (last minute Seattle people can email me to find one ASAP), but if not, you can still get involved. We have about 4 months left and every little bit you can do helps immensely. Even if that’s just talking to your friends and family to make sure everyone is informed and registered to vote, that’s great. Let’s do this.
The media studies major in me instantly noticed that they have him smiling at his much talked about flag pin. I’m sure the haters will (incorrectly) try to twist that into some sort of “he’s LOL’ing at America!!!!” criticism, but I think it represents something else. Even though he “gave in” and donned the pin, he’s smiling at how silly politics are in our country. The fact that whether or not you wear a pin dominates headlines for months, while America turns into the Titanic says a whole lot about our society. If we continue to concern ourselves with trivial ish, we’re gonna sink. It’s time to educate ourselves, study the issues, and vote for the candidate we believe in. Aight?
When I’m out campaigning for Barack, the biggest negative thing anyone mentions to me is that they don’t know much about him. Sure, I’ve run into a few “he’s a secret muslim!” people…but that’s pretty much codewords for “I’m racist.” Screw these people. Besides, isn’t like half the world Muslim? And why is that a bad thing to begin with? What an awful state we’re in when you have to defend yourself from an “attack” that isn’t remotely bad at all. Sigh.
Anyway, let me stop ranting. For those who aren’t familiar with Obama’s background, you can check out this new joint from Indianapolis’ Alpha and get familiar with the basics of his past. All the while, Alpha rips it over a dope Willie Hutch sample. This is my jam right now. Time to spread it around the Obama office here in Seattle…
