ahahahahahaah aw man, look at the homies Krispy and Al! The Knux made one of the least diverse crowds I’ve ever seen go absolutely crazy at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee this weekend. LOL @ the irony of ending with Dead Prez’ “Hip-Hop”…I love it.
Seattle people: Be sure to come check out the Knux at Bumbershoot this year, where they’ll be opening up for the Black Eyed Peas on the mainstage. Shout to Krispy, Al, Josh, and the whole crew. See y’all soon fellas.
Marco is one of my favorite producers these days and honestly, nobody is really seeing him on some straight up boom-bap head nodding type slaps. Check out this clip to watch him piece together sounds from multiple sources to make yet another banger.
Cop MP’s project with Torae, Double Barrel, in stores now! Support dope music & good dudes.
I’m sure there were all sorts of races involved with this, but this is still such a white thing to do. Some random crazy dude starts a dance party at Sasquatch at the Gorge during Santigold’s set. I love it.
As I mentioned in the post for the most recent Sound Session, Krispy and Al from the Knux came through the studio to kick it and co-host last night’s show. We talked about their next album, upcoming tour plans, an all-star remix to their “F!re” track that’s in the works, the Twitter phenomenon, and more. Plus, they even kicked a quick freestyle live over the air.
You can watch part of the interview above (including the freestyle) and/or download the audio below:
Generally speaking, projects with this level of corporate organization/sponsorship turn out extra corny, but thanks to the talent assembled for the latest Pepsi Mic Pass video, this one came out dope. All the live stuff was shot down in Austin at SXSW and you can see all sorts of folks in the background. Town homies will recognize Dow Jones and Jake One especially…
As I mentioned, Shad is releasing his insta-classic The Old Prince Still Lives At Home album in America on June 30th. Since the LP has been out in Canada for a while, they’ve already dropped some excellent videos for it (including possibly my favorite video ever for the title track), but the new one for “Compromise” will be coming at the start of next month. In the meantime, director Christopher Mills created this prelude with some extra footage from the video and a quick spoken word poem by Ian Kamau to hold folks over.
Additionally, they released the US artwork today too:
Freshness.
Lastly, even though the Warped Tour doesn’t have a ton of hip-hop on the bill, I highly recommend you check it out when it comes through your town this summer so you can catch Shad’s live set. Dates are below:

This dude is freaking killing it. Nice shot at the folks who took issue with his use of the Blackberry on the Funk Flex freestyle video. Anyway, whoever brings him to the Northwest first will get major props. Promoters, festivals, radio stations…hmmm…who will it be?
The two dopest artists in the game to me right now both hail from our friendly neighbor to the north, Canada. Yeah, yeah, I still love all the usual folks I listen to, but in the past few months, I’ve been bumping nothing but Drake’s So Far Gone and Shad’s The Old Prince Still Lives At Home. Even though it’s been available up north for a minute, Shad’salbum is finally dropping here in the States on June 30th. I really can’t recommend it enough…and those songs are like 2-4 years old now. Wait till you hear the new ish.
And if you need any convincing that SK is dope, peep this…possibly the illest freeverse ever:
If you missed the Wale/Colin Munroe show at Neumos here in Seattle from the end of last month, never fear, Hugh from BlogsIsWatching has your back. He linked up with Jason Hakala, Same Bae, James Chong, and Cahn Solo to produce this excellent clip of Wale’s introduction and the first track, “Breakdown.” More clips will be coming soon…
Barry was lickin’ shots at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner yesterday. Yeah, yeah, he has writers obviously, but still, his delivery was great. How strange is it that our President is cooler than us?
By the way, this >>>>>> the Justin/Samberg “Mother Lovers” skit.
