This dropped while everyone was down at SXSW, but it’s fresh enough to make sure to post up. “Me and This Jawn” is probably my favorite track off Murs For President, in part due to the crazy flip of the Isley Brothers on the beat. Dope video too.
Two of my favorite artists in music…and Santogold…combined for this dope track off N.A.S.A.’s debut album, The Spirit of Apollo. I really dig the sounds at the beginning and end of this joint, but as with most N.A.S.A. videos, I don’t think I do enough (ok, any) drugs to enjoy the visuals as much as some folks do. Seeing them live at SXSW was definitely an experience though. Peace to the dancing alien go-go dancers at the Filter party…

New video from the Custom Made crew, who I’ve been digging for a couple years now. They’ve quietly been releasing some dope ish down there in Los Angeles, and certainly more grimy than most of the new stuff from the West. Every now and then, you just have to step on someone’s sneakers you know?

Off the brand new Common Market digital release, Winter’s End EP, here’s the MTVu debut of RA Scion & Sabzi’s “Escaping Arkham.” With Zia at the directorial helm, you already know the visuals are going to be flawless. He’s really one of the most underrated directors in the game nationally…it won’t be long until people are flying him all around the country to do their videos.
Sidenote: mobbing down to SXSW with a lot of Seattle folks, RA and Sabzi included, was one of my highlights of last week. We have a ton of talent in the town and if you aren’t aware, you’re sleeping. Plus, everyone is cool as hell…

Well, more than a few stations are finally on board with the Kid Cudi movement and “Day N Nite” is skyrocketing up the chart. Aside from ‘Ye and the always ill Miss Janelle Monae, Cudi was pretty much the star of SXSW, getting mobbed everywhere and packing out show after show. Let’s just say there were plenty of Cudi Buddies ready and willing for the man.

I’m not a huge fan of this track as a whole, but Kanye status = insta-post. I readily admit that I jock dude, pause, but he’s probably my favorite artist doing it right now. On a side note, do you think Keri Hilson’s album lived up to all the buzz/hype she’s been getting? I’m only one listen in, and there are definitely some joints (“Alienated” and “Slow Dance” in particular), but I dunno…
New dopeness from Michigan MC and Athletic Mic League affiliate, Octane, off his Forgotten Chosen album with Illite. The hook is slightly generic and reminiscent of Thugnificent, but the verses are mean. Plus, the homey 14KT* is on the beat, so you already know.
