Fun fact: I’ve never smoked anything in my life. Not even once. These lungs stay pure! I like to live in the reality that I’m actually in. Am I really missing much?
That said, this song and video are…no pun…fire.
Super dope cover of Tony Bennet’s classic, plus great visuals, from the Mayer himself. I don’t skateboard at all, but I always love these slow motion skate vids. This one was especially crisp…
Woah…not only do we get some dope visuals for this great record, but halfway through, Aloe flips it and gives us a sneak preview of another song off his upcoming Good Things project. Very few artists are as talented all around as this man…I once saw him kill a whole show just playing the trumpet and not even rhyming once.

No long-winded description this week, just shouts to the folks who joined us on the 253rd edition of SNSS:
Enjoy!

I get rapped out quite often these days, and when I do, I love stuff like this. Yes, this is every pseudo-emo girl’s favorite song, or at least it was when it was used in 500 Days of Summer, but so what…it’s great. I caught these guys at a Filter event at SXSW and was pretty impressed. Sure enough, when they broke into this song, every girl in the crowd sang along word for word…hit record status. Above is the new US version of the video, to complement the previously released European clip:

“I use food stamps in the street yo/
Now I got a cool ranch like Doritos”
— Tony Yayo, “Obama”
Shout to the whole S.A.S. and of course the homey Phonte. In Search of Stoney Jackson is one of the doper records in the past year, but that’s to be expected when Strong Arm links up with Madlib for a full project. Cop that.

The homey Fest just dropped his new joint, “Familiar Faces,” and while it’s dope…it also gives me an excuse to post possibly my favorite YouTube clip of all time. First, the song:
The track samples Gary Jules’ “Mad World,” which is generally known as the song used in the first Gears of War commercial, but if you’re really cool…you know it as the soundtrack for SAD PANDA!
Fin.

Ok, so my last post made me feel kind of bad for old Ursher. I’ve been listening to his new album recently and while very little of it is actually appealing to me, there’s one track that I like a lot:
Perhaps it’s the subtle Dawn Penn reference in the lyrics, or perhaps it’s his incredibly romantic chorus, sure to make all the ladies swoon:
“Lovin’ me baby, that’s a no-no/
I’m better when I touch and go/
I’m tryin’ to add your name/
To my Hall of Fame/
Not just a player, I’m a pro”
Really a modern day Marvin Gaye with the songwriting. Alright fine, just enjoy the melody…
