It’s been a while since Terius has had a hit record, but if programmers make the right call, this one should be in heavy rotation. Kinda the jam right now, don’t front…despite the steampunk Versace look in the video? Radio killaaaaaaa
Jay and Yeezy are so big, they can’t even get booked for their own music videos these days. At least the fantastic director, Romain Gavras, took a break from making incredible visuals to wack M.I.A. songs to do a clip for a great record. Dopeness.
That said, his best video is still Justice’s “Stress.” Insane:
The video doesn’t do much for me (not really into girls looking like Destro), but the track is dope. Well, the track is cool…and the verses from Drizzy and ‘Ye are fire. Anyone who drops an “alt-tab” reference automatically wins, and Kanye’s verse is pretty much spot on. “Even [his] superficial raps are super official.” Not sure what’s up with the beat change during his verse for the video, but it’s cool.
And just to show you how far we’ve come in less than a decade of widespread technological assisted hook ups, I present Next’s classically bad computer-related sex track, “Cybersex”:
That’s right ladies…he wants your PC…to sit on his laptop. “Oh technology, wow”…not one of RL’s finer moments.
Despite the special effects looking like cut scenes from an early 2000’s computer game (Starcraft FTW), I kinda dig this video. Well, upon further review, I think I just like he song and the clip itself is adequate. Kanye kind of bodies his verse (for a guest 16 on a R&B track) and The-Dream is actally one of the few pop/R&B singers I like these days. Though I don’t like that there’s a hyphen in his name…not one bit. Why does The-Dream have a hyphen and Flo Rida doesn’t? These are the things that keep me up at night.
Sidenote, Seattle folks: The-Dream (and perhaps Ms. Milian?) will be coming to Summer Jam this year, July 25th at White River Amphitheater. For more info and the complete lineup, click here. And since it is a recession, if you want to cop lawn seats for $9.33, we’re having a special promotion this Saturday from 10am – 1pm at White River. Plus, if you find me there and mention The Audacity of Dope, you win a special prize*.
*special prize is dap lasting no longer than 2.3 seconds.
Yeah, yeah, I know WLotD has been MIA for a minute, but hey…I’m a busy man and I think y’all can live without it. That said, I just heard this atrocity on the new remix for The Dream’s “Rockin’ That Thang” and it has to be called out.
“Demolition Man, tell ya friends I demolish ya/
Plus I’m that n***a, baby I can make ya popular/
So get another shot of that Ciroc in ya/
Cause I’m gonna be rockin’ ya/
Treat ya like the first lady, I’ll put my Barack in ya”
