Inside Camp Budden

Posted in Artists, Joints, Other Peoples' Interviews, Videos on July 10th, 2008 by Hyphen

Here’s a nice little video catching you up to speed with Joe Budden, who’s been one of my favorite MC’s since back when everyone thought he was Rasheed Wallace’s alter ego.  He answers the standard interview questions (“what’s your take on hip-hop today,” “who do you want to work with,” etc.) and gives a little shine to an artist he’s putting on named HeartBreak.  Padded Room coming September 16th?  Let’s hope so…

And if your internet game has been slackin’, here are his two newest joints, speaking on…everything.  I was going to wait until all the parts leaked and were combined into one song (since Part 3 should be coming soon) but screw it.

Joe Budden – “Who, Pt. 1”
Joe Budden – “Who, Pt. 2”

There’s waaaaaaay too much truth in these joints.

Kenna ft. Justin Timberlake – Rockaway Life

Posted in Artists, Joints on July 10th, 2008 by Hyphen

Kenna

Damn, again I thought I had tracked down all the bonus songs from Kenna‘s Make Sure They See My Face, but apparently not.  No idea how long this has been floating around the net, since it supposedly appeared on the UK version.  Either way, I gaffled it from Tunji.

Kenna ft. Justin Timberlake – “Rockaway Life”

Justin’s only on background vocals here, but both he and Kenna kill it.  Play it loud.

Nas – Sly Fox (official video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on July 10th, 2008 by Hyphen

(why is there a Wolf Blitzer CNN clip in there?)

You know, honestly, I prefer the fan made video I posted yesterday.  But regardless, this is dope and Cordero gets props for including Jay Smooth and Info in it.  Plus, I’m glad he decided to take this in the ‘new media’ direction, in that WE ARE the new media outlets.  Blogs, messageboards, podcasts, etc. can all help fight media consolidation.  Don’t let the internet turn into the radio.

Jackie

I was just talking about planning my next adventure abroad, and how I need to hit Asia & Australia to complete my continent bingo card, and now I’m going to have to put that on hold.  I’ll wait until this is finished, cause it sounds like the coolest place ever.

‘Jackie Chan Museum’ Shows His Glory

Jackie Chan’s legendary career will be archived in a new museum for which the star laid the foundation Tuesday in Shanghai.

Chan handpicked the location for the museum, which will be named after him, in the Changfeng Ecology Commercial District in Shanghai’s Putuo District, Sina.com.cn says.

The museum will largely be renovated from old factory buildings. When completed on October 1 next year, it will take up about 3,100 square meters.

Visitors will be able to retrace Chan’s footsteps from Hong Kong to Hollywood, and navigate through detailed showpieces of Chan from being a Chinese icon, a kung-fu megastar to a charity devotee, Sina says.

Also on display will be some of Chan’s film awards, as well as costumes and props he has used.

Besides the museum, more side projects have been put on the actor’s agenda. According to Chan’s Web site, he recently signed a contract in Yunnan Province for a Jackie Chan Peace Garden, which he will cooperate with the local government to promote “Environment, Friendship, and Charity.” An earlier report also quoted Chan as saying that he was planning to build a kung-fu school. (Source)

Jackie’s always been one of my favorite people in the entertainment industry, so this museum sounds like a great experience.  Shout to my man Jason from back in the day who used to smuggle bootleg Jackie movies from Hong Kong for all of us to enjoy.  We even met dude at the U-Village Barnes & Noble one year for his book signing.  That was legit.

What’s your favorite Jackie Chan movie?  I’m rolling with Thunderbolt.  Come on man…kung-fu + racing Skylines & Eclipses?  It’s a wrap.  The pachinko parlor scene is legendary.

TiRon ft. Tunji (of Inverse) & Ayomari – Quitter

Posted in Artists, Joints on July 9th, 2008 by Hyphen

Tunji, TiRon, Ayomari
(image shamelessly jacked from Mr. Lee)

Seeing as how Tunji is one of the best MC’s out there (and happens to be an old friend), you know I’m going post everything Inverse related.  This is a new joint from another dope MC from Los Angeles, TiRon (who you heard on Sound Session with “Throwin’ My Money”), featuring Tunj and Ayomari, described as “a somber smoker’s/drinker’s anthem type joint.”  I don’t smoke or drink, but I can still vibe to this.  Produced by DJ Dahi, who might be linking up with Tunj for a joint on my mythical 7th edition of the Beats, Rhymes, and Life mixtape series.  The tape will happen.  I swear.
