Yessir! It doesn’t get any more 206 than this one. Big shout to everyone involved in this video, many of which are my favorite folks in this industry/community. Great to see everyone get some shine and I’m still a little disappointed I wasn’t able to hit up the shoot too. If I remember right though, I was coaching my 6th grade select squad to some Eastside ass-whooping, so it’s all good. Would have been nice to get a little U-District/Ravenna repping though hahaha. The end of this song (“peace out homey!!!”) will always be a great memory, as that soundbite was taken from one of our crazy SNSS callers when Jake was in the studio one night. Classic.
Special props to Jake, Zia, & Pinder for doing a great job with this clip. Townbidnassmane.
Yeah, Cudi’s on the hook on this too, along with Hudson…not sure why nobody ever credits him…
Anyway, here’s the long awaited video for Kanye’s “Paranoid,” one of my favorite songs from the past year. Unfortunately, this video doesn’t really do a lot for me, mainly cause I don’t think Aneesa from the Road Rules/Real World Challenge Rihanna is that hot. Sue me. Song is still the JAM though.
If you remember the first video from Shawn Jackson & Newman’s New Jack Hustle project, you already know this one was gonna be fresh. Add in Ohmega Watts and dope, innovative idea and it’s a wrap. NW/Pitzer in this piece. Peep the interview with New Jack Hustle from SNSS a while back right here.
Any of you own some of the vinyl in the video? I know I do…
Back in the good ol’ Napster days, one of my favorite discoveries was a dope crew from Maryland and NYC named Maspyke. Tableek and the criminally underrated Hanif Jamyl held down mic duties while Roddy Rod killed the production. Whether you’re familiar with Rod through Maspyke or his Low Budget crew affiliation, just make sure you’re not sleeping.
Here’s his new video for “This Time Around” with Phonte (of Little Brother) and Carlitta Durand. SNSS listeners will remember us world premieringthis track last month, so act like ya know.
As I mentioned, Shad is releasing his insta-classic The Old Prince Still Lives At Home album in America on June 30th. Since the LP has been out in Canada for a while, they’ve already dropped some excellent videos for it (including possibly my favorite video ever for the title track), but the new one for “Compromise” will be coming at the start of next month. In the meantime, director Christopher Mills created this prelude with some extra footage from the video and a quick spoken word poem by Ian Kamau to hold folks over.
Additionally, they released the US artwork today too:
Freshness.

As I mentioned in the post for the viral clip of “We Made It,” Kee & Zee’s newest video for “Alright With Me” has already been picked up by MTVu. Dopeness. Phonte had like 8 bars in this track and killed it. Shout to all my Cali familia in the video too…
So as I was saying, people who run around complaining that NYC has fallen off have no idea what they’re talking about, plain and simple. Regardless of what superstars are dominating the mainstream hip-hop coverage, New York artists like PackFM and Domingo have been releasing quality music for years. So remember all those years where you saw nothing but shiny suits and XXXXXXXXXXL white tee’s and you pined for “real” hip-hop?
It’s been there the whole time. Stop sleeping. PackFM & Domingo’s I F*cking Hate Rappers drops soon…
Hahaha MP & Tor are fools for this one. Seeing Tor get his Rocky on is hyping me up for their upcoming album, Double Barrel, which drops on June 2nd on Duck Down (what up to the brothers ‘Ha!). For all those complaining about a lack of that classic NYC boom-bap griminess in today’s music scene, this LP is gonna smack the ish out you.
Melanie is gonna be a star. The album cuts I heard are even better than the single and she’s real cool people too. Be on the lookout for her on Sound Session real soon. Need proof?
Nah, I’m not gonna post ’em, cause I do try to keep this blog PG-13 for the kids, but I know we’ve all seen Cassie’s pics by now. And I know we all approve.
They did remind me of this original version of the “Me & U” video though, which for the longest time I thought had been stricken from the internet. Apparently they decided to make a video that reflected the blatant message in the song and only later realized this was a more sexual first look than they wanted for her career. Little did they know, this is tame as of yesterday. Besides, in this digital age, nothing on the net is ever really gone.
Sidenote, how cool is it that wifey was the one who tracked this down for me hahah…keeper!
