Black Moon’s Biography, Pt. 1 (video)

Posted in Artists, Videos on July 11th, 2008 by Hyphen

We have a lot of younger listeners on Sound Session, as anybody who’s sat in during the show and heard us answer the request line can attest to (i.e. a call for the “Wu-Tang Twins”…sigh), so sometimes I feel like I need to educate some of y’all. If you don’t know much about the legendary Boot Camp Clik, this video will serve as a nice intro for first group to put BCC on the map, Black Moon. Hopefully part two drops soon.

Talib Kweli, Buckshot, & Pete Rock in NYC

VIMBY – One Step Beyond: Talib Kweli

Tunji sent over this dope video of Talib (with Hi-Tek!), Buck, and Pete performing at the American Museum of Natural History a few weeks back.  Pete Rosenberg makes a good point – back in the day, who would have thought you’d see hip-hop take over a place like that?  Very ill.

Inside Camp Budden

Posted in Artists, Joints, Other Peoples' Interviews, Videos on July 10th, 2008 by Hyphen

Here’s a nice little video catching you up to speed with Joe Budden, who’s been one of my favorite MC’s since back when everyone thought he was Rasheed Wallace’s alter ego.  He answers the standard interview questions (“what’s your take on hip-hop today,” “who do you want to work with,” etc.) and gives a little shine to an artist he’s putting on named HeartBreak.  Padded Room coming September 16th?  Let’s hope so…

And if your internet game has been slackin’, here are his two newest joints, speaking on…everything.  I was going to wait until all the parts leaked and were combined into one song (since Part 3 should be coming soon) but screw it.

Joe Budden – “Who, Pt. 1”
Joe Budden – “Who, Pt. 2”

There’s waaaaaaay too much truth in these joints.

The Roots Picnic – Webisode #1

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on July 8th, 2008 by Hyphen

In the first of four ‘webisodes’ documenting the recent Roots Picnic that went down in Philly a few weeks back (a day after we interviewed ?uest for Sound Session), Black Thought, Amanda Diva, and others give you a little introduction on what the event was all about.  I like the idea of this ‘blockapalooza’ happening every year, hopefully ?uest can make that happen.  And, of course, no concert video is complete without the obligatory drunk white girls.

Where The Hell Is Matt?

Posted in Random Ish, Videos on July 8th, 2008 by Hyphen

Is it wrong that this kinda gave me goosebumps?  Not to get too cheesy, but this video that a Seattle-ite named Matt Harding put together is not only dope visually, but also shows how small the world really is.  We’re all basically the same.

After being convinced to do a silly dance in front of the camera on one of his vacations, Matt decided to start doing it every place he went.  Soon, Stride Gum heard of the story and started financing all his trips, and this video is the end result.  Makes me want to travel.  I think my next adventure is going to be a Japan/China/Australia trip next year.  Time to start planning.

Questlove + Jason Goldwatch on Remix America

Posted in Artists, Politics, Videos on July 8th, 2008 by Hyphen

Remix America paired up with Declare Yourself and interviewed ?uestlove (of the Roots) about the importance of voting in the upcoming election.  Decon Records‘ own Jason Goldwatch remixed the raw footage to create this dope final product.  If you’re not registered, head on over to Declare Yourself and do it.  Only takes a second to make a difference.

Dilated Peoples – Freestyle in the Park (video)

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on July 8th, 2008 by Hyphen

Or in this case, on the tour bus.  For the latest edition of Ruby Hornet‘s “Freestyle In The Park” series, the homies Rakaa and Evidence kick a few (actual) freestyles on their tour bus.  You don’t see people going off the dome much anymore, so it’s always fun when MC’s do that.  My only question is…where’s the Babu verse?!  Didn’t we hear some of his mic skills on the outro to Soundbombing II?

DunkXChange on Karmaloop

Posted in Goods, Videos on July 8th, 2008 by Hyphen

When I mentioned that I DJ’d for U-N-I at the Seattle stop of the DunkXChange a while back, some people hit me up wondering what exactly the event was.  Well this video sums it up nicely.  Shout to all those involved, I’m looking forward to the next one in the 206.

“Geeks are cool now…this is our time”

I agree completely.  Dru, when are we going to incorporate “kill pose” at the gym?

A Day in the Life of Jean Grae (video)

Posted in Artists, Videos on July 7th, 2008 by Hyphen

As I’ve said before on this site, virtually anything involving Transformers will be posted…especially when it also involves two of my favorite MC’s, Jean Grae and Talib Kweli.  Shout to Corey Smyth and the whole Blacksmith family.  Cop Jean’s long awaited album with 9th Wonder, Jeanius, today!

Bonus: Talib’s last appearance on Sound Session (his 3rd overall) from Aug. ’07 – http://www.mediafire.com/?crtec4xn5zy
