Sound Session #530 (8/9/15)

SNSS

These are the shows you hate and you never forget.  We lost an incredible MC a few weeks ago and in tribute to Ruck aka Sean Price, we kicked off SNSS #530 with almost an hour of his classics.  While it felt great to relive all those verses and yell out “P!!!!” accordingly, it’s depressing to know that his newest release (Songs In The Key Of Price, cop it now!) is his last.  43 is way, way, way too young.  We need to ensure that our vets are taking care of themselves as they get older, especially because this lifestyle isn’t really conducive to healthy living.  RIP to a legend, one of the nastiest to ever pick up the mic, and condolences to our Duck Down fam.

In addition to our tribute to Ruck, we ran some new records from BJ The Chicago Kid, Dr. Dre, Method Man, Anik Khan, Macklemore, Warren G, Drake, Duckwrth, and more.  Local artist Huey P also dropped by to debut his new record, “206 / 253,” with Wale.

Sean Price – Figure Four (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on January 30th, 2010 by Hyphen

Some visuals for one of the dope freestyles off Kimbo Price.  Every time we use this beat on Sound Session, people ask what it is.  Have you forgotten this classic from Pace Won?

Heltah Skeltah – Ruck and Roll (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 26th, 2008 by Hyphen

Hahahah, Ruck and Rock are having too much fun these days.  Here’s their description of the newest video of D.I.R.T.:

Y’all might be gettin’ a little tired of all that Hip-Hop so we’re on that Rock ish (no pun) on this one. You might know them as the Boot Camp BK duo Ruck and Rock, or Heltah Skeltah, but here they assume the group name Special Education (consisting of members: Johny Rambo, Monstaman, Guitarded, unamed, and “Death to cabs in New Jersey”) for their latest vid “Ruck N Roll.” The video was directed by Rik Cordero and the song is off of Heltah Skeltah’s upcoming album D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team) in stores 9/30.

Cop that!  Shout to my Duckdown fam.

Heltah Skeltah – Everything Is Heltah Skeltah (video)

Posted in Artists, Joints, Music Videos on September 4th, 2008 by Hyphen

My thoughts:

  • Illmind killed that beat.
  • Sean and Rock murdered their verses, especially P.
  • Rock’s “…and I like Macy Gray” line reminds me of one of my pet peeves: if you use someone for a punchline, don’t apologize right afterward.  Especially if it’s someone like Macy Gray.  I think Royce did the same thing with an Omarion line a while back.  You’re a dope, grimy rapper…why are you copping out of dissing somebody like Macy Gray or Omarion?  wtfffff.
  • Why’d the Charlie Manson character look like a cross between Carrot Top and “The Interrupter” off Conan O’Brien’s show?
  • Look out for D.I.R.T. dropping September 30th!

Tash sighting!

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on July 23rd, 2008 by Hyphen

One of my favorite MC’s of all time, Catashtrophe, was spotted rhyming with J-Ro, E-Swift, and Heltah Skeltah somewhere, but I’m too lazy to find out all the details.  I assume this is courtesy of SP1200.net, so perhaps they’ll have the details.  Wait, a session broke out and they rapped over “Tried By 12“?  Didn’t see that coming…naht.

Bonus video of Tha Liks performing “Only When I’m Drunk” after the jump.  How did a group called Tha Alkaholiks become one of my favorite groups when I don’t even drink?  Oh yeah, they make dope ish.  I need some new Tash in my life ASAP.
