Janelle Monae – Many Moons (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 28th, 2008 by Hyphen

I was going to hold off on posting this video until the full edit hit the net, but since everyone else is putting up this version that cuts off, I figured I might as well.  The ending of this song is insanely dope, so I hope we see a legit version soon.  In the meantime, enjoy the dopeness that is Janelle Monae and if you missed her appearance on Sound Session, peep it here.  It’ll help you understand the story behind these visuals…

Seattle people: remember, Janelle will be here opening for Jamie Lidell at the Showbox (Market) on Oct. 3rd.  You should be there.

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 26th, 2008 by Hyphen

This is my ish right now.  Here’s the new video for The KnuX‘s “Bang Bang” off their upcoming debut, Remind Me In 3 Days.  In case you can’t tell, it’s inspired by The Outsiders and “Beat It.”  Krispy and Al are scheduled to be in studio with us live on Sound Session this week.  Anything y’all want me to ask ’em?

Heltah Skeltah – Ruck and Roll (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 26th, 2008 by Hyphen

Hahahah, Ruck and Rock are having too much fun these days.  Here’s their description of the newest video of D.I.R.T.:

Y’all might be gettin’ a little tired of all that Hip-Hop so we’re on that Rock ish (no pun) on this one. You might know them as the Boot Camp BK duo Ruck and Rock, or Heltah Skeltah, but here they assume the group name Special Education (consisting of members: Johny Rambo, Monstaman, Guitarded, unamed, and “Death to cabs in New Jersey”) for their latest vid “Ruck N Roll.” The video was directed by Rik Cordero and the song is off of Heltah Skeltah’s upcoming album D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team) in stores 9/30.

Cop that!  Shout to my Duckdown fam.

Common Market – Trouble Is (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 24th, 2008 by Hyphen

(look at Grynch gettin’ his cameo on…well done sir!)

Brand new video from some of the finest local talent here in Seattle, RA Scion & Sabzi, collectively known as Common Market.  I’ll let them describe the visuals:

”Trouble Is” tells the story of a vagrant farmer’s hardship in a town where the locals call into question his intentions and work ethic. The video captures this tension with unmistakably rustin and southern imagery as the first scene opens with a fiery sermon delivered from the pulpit of a dusty Baptist church.  The farmer, played by the emcee RA Scion, is aggressively pursued by a town mob, first driven out of town over distrust and distaste, then back again for the purpose of assimilation by force.  The video takes a curious turn in the final scene, ultimately leaving the viewer in the position of the town-folk to question the farmer’s motivation.

Shout to Zia Mohajerjasbi, who continues to direct excellent pieces.  If you missed RA on Sound Session a few weeks ago, peep it here.

Seattle people: catch CM along with People Under The Stairs and Shawn Jackson on Sunday at King Cobra.  And cop that Tobacco Road asap’ers.

Quick promo clip from Jake, Ali, & Rik (shout to Freeway too) talking about the upcoming video for “The Truth” off White Van Music.  The clips of the visuals look clean as hell, but that’s what we’ve come to expect from Rik’s videos.  Look for the full video to drop soon and then remember to cop the album on October 7th.

DJ Revolution ft. Special Teamz – Big Top (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos, Videos on September 16th, 2008 by Hyphen

Here’s a new video for one of the tracks on Rev’s dope new album, King of the Decks.  I’m not sure I would have picked this one for a video, but I think it came out pretty dope.  Oh, this is not for the sensitive.  Slaine gets points for calling out certain buffoonery by name, well done sir.  While perhaps a bit vulgar, the message behind this song is on point (and similar to my favorite joint off the album, “Willie Lynch” w/Styliztik Jones & KB iMean).

Hit the jump to see part two of Rev’s promo videos for the album.  I posted the first edition right here.

The Cool Kids – Delivery Man (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 16th, 2008 by Hyphen

Here’s the video for the new joint from The Cool Kids, done in conjunction with Mountain Dew’s Green Label Sound.  There’s nothing groundbreaking about this track, but it’s one of my favorites at the moment.  [Phonte] Dope beats, dope rhymes, what more do y’all want? [/Tay]

Download this track over at Mountain Dew’s site and look for a Sound Session + Green Label Sound project coming soon…

Johnson&Jonson (Blu & Mainframe) – J&J (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 16th, 2008 by Hyphen

(he spits harder than you.)

Here’s a quick video for part of Blu & Mainframe’s “J&J” track.  Nothing really needs to be said when a clip is as straightforward and dope as this one.  You can go crazy with overly complex visuals, but when your music is this ill, you really don’t have to.  Very clean, very dope.  Cop the official version of their long awaited album on September 23rd!  Easily one of my favorite releases of the year.
