Sound Session #341 (12-18-11)

Posted in Episodes, Sound Session on December 20th, 2011 by Hyphen

Another insanely hectic week in the books, but Sound Session is back like we never left…cause we haven’t.  Episode #341 marks our final show of 2011 since next Sunday is Christmas (oh yeah…I should probably get on that whole “shopping” thing…), so after this, we’ll see y’all in 2012 with our best of ’11 wrap up edition.  Don’t miss it!

I tossed a few videos from Jay-Z & Kanye’s Watch The Throne tour up on Twitter for those unlucky folks who haven’t seen it live (you’re slippin’), so you can peep them right here.  After that, enjoy SNSS #341 with new music from Snoop & Wiz (produced by Jake One), Lupe Fiasco, Tunji, Murs, Asher Roth, Action Bronson, Brothers From Another, Summer Leather Vest, John West, The Kid Daytona, Drizzy, Black Star, and more.  See y’all next year…it’s a new day.

Lupe Fiasco – Double Burger With Cheese (unofficial video)

Posted in Artists, Movies, Music Videos on December 18th, 2011 by Hyphen

It doesn’t look like Lupe had anything to do with the creation of this video for “Double Burger With Cheese,” but whoever spliced together all these clips of Juice, Menace II Society, Boyz N The Hood, New Jersey Drive, Dead Presidents, Sugar Hill, New Jack City, Colors, and more did an excellent job.  Would have liked to hear and see an Above The Rim reference, but other than that, flawless.

Pac Div ft. Skeme & Casey Veggies – Top Down (video)

“I don’t go to clubs or listen to the radio (outside of SNSS) but when I do, I listen to Pac Div’s “Top Down.””

Freddie Gibbs ft. Dom Kennedy & Polyester – Menace II Society (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on December 18th, 2011 by Hyphen

Freddie’s ode to the West Coast…the best coast…off Cold Day In Hell gets some nice visuals featuring producer/crooner Polyester and Dom Kennedy, who really epitomizes the current iteration of the west coast G sound.  Definitely a smooth record that makes any of us stuck in the cold northwest region pine for that LA weather.

All Tim Tebow Does Is Win…not today though (video)

Posted in Comedy, Music Videos, Sports on December 18th, 2011 by Hyphen

ESPN’s Skip Bayless is easily the biggest Tim Tebow supporter (politest word I could use there) and while we’re all enjoying Tebow-mania, the bandwagon took a step back in to reality with today’s defeat to the New England Patriots. This video is still classic though.

50 Cent – Wait Until Tonight (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on December 18th, 2011 by Hyphen

Aw man, this is that old Ferrari F50 that I’ve missed.  Scoop Deville’s Bobby Womack flip is perfect and Fif’s flow is straight out of 2002.  Those days when G-Unit were running the mixtape scene were some of my favorite times and this record sounds like it could have been on any one of those tapes.  Great record.

I’m not buying the headphones though.

Yuna – Decorate (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on December 18th, 2011 by Hyphen

Happened to stumble across this video today as I was going through music (shout to 2DopeBoyz for posting it) and particularly liked some of the writing on here.  Yuna’s voice is awesome too.

If you’re not following @shitgirlssay on Twitter, you’re missing the most authentic archived collection of information on the World Wide Web.  I’ve never read anything more accurate in my life and I can only hope they continue to put visuals to the greatness that is SGS.

Russell Brand & Kristen Bell – Forgetting Sarah Marshall improv audition videos

Posted in Comedy, Movies, Videos on December 11th, 2011 by Hyphen

Forgetting Sarah Marshall was on last night and since it’s one of my all-time favorite movies, of course I had to watch it.  I remember when it first came out, I stumbled across the bloopers on YouTube, which then linked over to these 2 audition videos for Russell Brand and Kristen Bell.  I believe this was Brand’s first big American role and he couldn’t have picked one better.  He essentially was Aldous Snow.  You can see how his natural improv above is almost identical to the character in the film, and you can also see how hilarious and quick witted he is.  There are so many lines that he fires out under his breath that crack me up.

Kristen Bell’s audition isn’t nearly as funny, although Jason Segel drops plenty of great lines, but it’s still pretty interesting to see how these improvisational tryouts are conducted.  Overall, both clips provide some cool insight into one of the better comedies of the last decade.

And just for good measure, cause no matter how stupid they are, I can’t help but laugh at gag reels:

Editor’s note: I must be getting old, since I forgot that I already posted Russell’s video last year but hell, enjoy the other two clips…
