Kardinal Offishall & Nottz ft. Shi Wisdom – Mr. Parker (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on July 28th, 2012 by Hyphen

The infectious “Mr. Parker” from Kardi & Nottz’ collaborative album, Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself, gets visuals as well, calling back to your high school days.  Very dope to see Kardi link up with Shi Wisdom, who’s one of the dopest up and coming singers around.  If you haven’t downloaded the project yet, grab it here!

Kardinal Offishall – Kill Shot (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on March 31st, 2012 by Hyphen

We played this record on SNSS last week and I love it.  It’s not my favorite “gunshot made into a beat” song (that would be 50’s “Heat“), but Nottz & Kardi turned in a banger.  Plus, Kardi spit some real ish.

Kill shot…it’s a kill shot!

Kardinal Offishall – The Anthem (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on January 22nd, 2011 by Hyphen

There are only a few cities that I haven’t been to that I would love to visit and Toronto is definitely one of them.  Big up to all T-Dot massive.

Other cities that need Hyphenated visits:  Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney, Stockholm, and New York.  Yes, that’s right.  I’ve been in the music biz for 10 years and alive for 28, but haven’t been to NYC yet.  Shrug.

Kardinal Offishall – We Gon’ Go (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on February 7th, 2010 by Hyphen

Sound Session listeners will remember this track from a few months ago.  Great record from one of my favorites and one of the most underrated MC’s of all time.  Yeah, I said it.

Melanie Fiona on Sound Session

Posted in Artists, Interviews, Sound Session on July 7th, 2009 by Hyphen

As much as I like interviewing my favorite MC’s (most of which are dudes), it’s always a much appreciated change of pace when we bring a talented female into the Sound Session studio.  A while back, the lovely Melanie Fiona came through to chop it up with us and play some records from her upcoming album, The Bridge.

While the album’s release has been delayed until August here in the States, peep the interview to hear her discuss the motivation behind the music, why it’s universal to everyone, and how she’s hoping it helps kill off ringtone singles.  She also talked about her Canadian/West Indian background, the process of crossing over to America’s music industry by signing with Steve Rifkind’s SRC label, touring with Kanye West, and more.

You can watch the interview above or download the audio below.

Be on the lookout for The Bridge dropping soon…y’all haven’t heard anything yet, trust me.

The Kid Daytona – Come Fly With Me (album)

Posted in Artists, Mixtapes on July 1st, 2009 by Hyphen

I’ve been waiting for Daytona’s official album to drop for a minute and the day is finally here.  Don’t get it twisted either…despite my blog tag calling Come Fly With Me a mixtape, this is indeed a full length project full of original material…and it’s dope as hell.  Peep the press release if you need to get up to speed on Daytooooooooona and then download the project below.

New York, NY – The Kid Daytona, born in Atlanta, GA to a set of Caribbean parents, grew up with a unique blend of cultural identities, which was only further expanded by his teenage years in The Bronx, NY. It was these formative years in New York’s northern borough that led The Kid Daytona to his current path as a musician — and the June 30th release of his full length studio album, Come Fly With Me.

The flight path leading  to the release of Come Fly With Me has been a long one. The Kid Daytona attained early success when his group The Aces was signed to Atlantic Records in 2002. Though the group dismantled shortly thereafter, Daytona managed to establish himself in the eyes of legendary MC Busta Rhymes, who quickly enlisted the young artist for a role in Flipmode Squad. In addition to Busta Rhymes, Daytona has also been blessed with the guidance of Cipha Sounds (Hot 97 WQHT), who has helped create the dynamic artist that appears on Come Fly With Me.  Daytona and Cipha started out by releasing A Tribe Called Fresh in 2008,  which garnered the attention of major media outlets like The Fader. Daytona explains that, “the success of the Tribe tape helped me realize it was time to put an official album together. I want people to be able to hear my music, and this is best way for me to make that happen – by making it available, and doing it well.”

On Come Fly With Me, The Kid Daytona shares airspace with musical superstars such as Bun B (UGK), Kardinal Offishall, and seasoned newcomers such as Mickey Factz, Amanda Diva, Harlem’s Cash, Outasight, and more. Production credits for the album include 6th Sense, Double 0 (Kidz In The Hall), Cook Classics, Jet Audio, Ill Bomb, The Government, and Deputy.

Both Come Fly With Me and its single, “Contact” featuring Kardinal Offishall, will be distributed digitally by Community JUICE beginning Tuesday, June 30, 2009.

Kardinal Offishal – Nina (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on December 6th, 2008 by Hyphen

Kardi hinted at this video at the end of the clip for “Numba 1,” and now the visuals for “Nina” are here.  When you have a song as good as this one, you don’t really need anything fancy for the video to turn out dope.  Plus, I’m not mad at that girl in the car at all.

Kardinal Offishall ft. Keri Hilson – Numba 1 (Tide Is High) (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on October 25th, 2008 by Hyphen

(chyea @ the Usain Bolt pose at 1:45)

This is the third incarnation of this song, as the initial leaked version featured the Pussycat Dolls, the album track featured Rihanna, and now the video features Keri Hilson.  To be honest, I can’t really pick one of those over the other, since they all do a decent job.  The best part of this song is clearly Kardi and his energy, and the video does a great job capturing what one of his live shows is like.  Dropping videos like this in October just isn’t fair though.  The weather is starting to get awful and [Biggie] I swear to God sometimes it feels like death Jamaica is callin’ me [/Big].

Huge shout to Kardi and the Black Jays fam, especially for tossing my favorite track off of Not 4 Sale, “Nina,” at the end of the clip.  Video courtesy of OnSmash.

Kardinal Offishall on Hip-Hop Official

Posted in Artists, Other Peoples' Interviews, Videos on July 24th, 2008 by Hyphen

Here’s a new interview with Kardinal from Hip-Hop Official Offishall.  Some nice basic info is discussed, but I must say, the interview we just did with him smashes this one.  I’ll have that for y’all next week, since I’m going to air The Game interview this weekend.  Anyway, Kardi is the man and I’m psyched he’s getting some good publicity this time around.

Spotted on 2 Dope Boyz.

Kardinal Offishall ft. the Clipse – Set It Off (video)

Posted in Artists, Joints, Music Videos on July 22nd, 2008 by Hyphen

One more post before I pass the hell out.  I’ve been a big fan of Kardi’s for damn near a decade now (I think “U R Ghetto” was the first joint I heard back in like ’99), and it was an honor to kick it with him at the station for a few hours.  During our interview, he mentioned the video for “Set It Off” was going to leak today, and sure enough, here it is.  Good stuff.  Download the mp3 below if you need it and be sure to cop Not 4 Sale on September 9th.  Also watch for the video and audio of that interview coming soon.
