Fresh Espresso ft. Grynch, Macklemore, & Gatsby – Something New (Remix)

Posted in Artists, Joints, Music Videos, Remixes on October 24th, 2009 by Hyphen

For those who aren’t aware, the talent in Seattle is crazy right now.  One of my favorite releases of the year, local or national, was Fresh Espresso‘s Glamour, and Rik Rude & P-Smoov just enlisted Grynch, Macklemore, and Gatsby for the remix.  Video by Stephan Gray.  Bananas.

Clockwork – Hold On (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on July 2nd, 2009 by Hyphen

Now that it’s my day job to watch music videos all day, I see damn near every clip that gets released.  As such, when a dope one comes around, I’m always extra impressed because I know how much effort gets put into the good ones…and I know how easy it is for folks to cut corners and release wack visuals, even for dope tracks.

We’ve been pretty blessed in the Seattle hip-hop scene to have produced some great videos recently (The Saturday Knights, They Live, The Physics, Choklate, and Zia Mohajerjasbi’s work with the Blue Scholars and Common Market, among others), and now we’ve got another from Clockwork.  The three man crew comprised of Lace Cadence, Take One, and Miguel Rockwell just released “Hold On” from their last album, Future Pastime, and it’s easily one of the cleanest videos I’ve seen in a minute.  There are some great effects to match up with the crystal clear images, plus the track is dope.

Cop Future Pastime on iTunes right here and follow the crew on Twitter as well.

Choklate – Suns Out / Grown Folks (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos, Remixes, Videos on June 16th, 2009 by Hyphen

Awww yeah, the homegirl Chok just dropped the video for 2 joints off her new album, To Whom It May Concern.  Trust when I tell you that not only is she one of the most talented singers in our lovely city, but she’s right there at the top of the pack nationally.  People are starting to catch on, so hop on the bandwagon before you’re too late!

Also, you may remember the Vitamin D “Suns Out” beat from our Cornerstone Mixtape where Thig Natural of the Physics ripped a little freestyle intro.  Have you downloaded the tape yet?

And just in case you needed more proof that Seattle is jam packed full of talent, peep this video of KDCutz remixing “Suns Out.”

Wow.

DJ Hyphen & J. Moore – Northwest Fresh (mixtape)

Posted in Artists, Mixtapes, Sound Session on May 3rd, 2009 by Hyphen

Regular listeners of Sunday Night Sound Session probably remember that a few weeks ago, J and I gave out a bunch of these Northwest Fresh mixtapes on the air.  Since we’ve already handed out more than a thousand of ’em in the Seattle streets at various KUBE events,  it’s time to post up and blast it out officially to the net.

Truth be told, it’s past time, as this collection has been finished for months.  So that said, the music on here isn’t necessarily that new, but it’s still dope and it’s a good collection of artists that are making some great hip-hop and R&B here in the Seattle area.  If you’re up on the town bidness, you’ve probably heard all these tracks.  If not, you can take this as a good introduction to one of the most slept on scenes in the country.  Shout to Mountain Dew’s Green Label Sound for sponsoring the project.
