FIFA Soccer 12 Matchups (video)

Posted in Comedy, Sports, Videos on September 24th, 2011 by Hyphen

Landon Donovan takes on (Bellevue’s own) Tim Lincecum above and (Richland’s own) Hope Solo takes on (British Columbia’s own) Steve Nash in these hilarious ads for the new FIFA Soccer game from EA Sports.  Kind of a NW feel to these ads, eh?  I guess that’s to be expected with EA’s FIFA headquarters in Burnaby and soccer being more popular in the Pacific Northwest than pretty much every other area of North America.

Nash’s dry sense of humo(u)r is awesome. “That’s a low blow…I worked hard for that degree.” That dude is the man.

In fact, when FIFA drops on Tuesday, I’m kind of tempted to cop a system just to play it whenever I can’t get on the pitch in real life. Looks crazy!

Maffew Ragazino – Black Sheep (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 23rd, 2011 by Hyphen

In case you need a little motivation to download Maffew’s album in my last post, here are the new visuals for “Black Sheep.”  While the video takes about 2 minutes to get in to the song, this track is worth it.  NYC summer banger and I must admit, I have an instant crush on one of these video girls…

GMK – Up Up Down Down Left Left (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 22nd, 2011 by Hyphen

The irony of just venting on Twitter that I was getting tired of all these R&B records at 130 BPMS’s and then posting up my dude GMK’s “Up Up Down Down Left Left” is not lost on me, but this isn’t what I was referring to at all.

This is dope.

GMK’s delivery is great on this record and visually, the simple shot of him rapping to his girl in the park during a sunset is one of my favorites that I’ve seen recently.  You don’t need a big budget or some Hype Williams screen effects.  Just shoot something real with a dope soundtrack and there you have it.

Cop it on iTunes and support my guy!

Kooley High ft. HaLo – Atmosphere (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 22nd, 2011 by Hyphen

The Kooley High homies have released a video for my favorite track off Eastern Standard Time, which means SNSS listeners should remember it from when it first dropped.  The beat is too smooth, though I can’t help but hear that Q-Tip sample and want to listen to “Find A Way”…

DLRN ft. Prometheus Brown & Illecism – Reset (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 22nd, 2011 by Hyphen

I was recently thinking about this Delorean “Dear Langston” record that I posted a few years ago and wondered what ever happened to the group.  Turns out, they’ve renamed themselves DLRN (perhaps because of these guys?) and they’re definitely still around.  Here’s their latest work featuring the homey Geo.

DLRN proudly presents the visual accompaniment for the track “Reset” off their second EP The Bridge.  The track features the Blue Scholars’ Prometheus Brown and Illecism of Fly High.  Filmed for several days underneath the sweltering Mojave Desert sun, the video was directed by Sami Abdou of Faux Real Productions and filmed by Tim Jenkins.  Conceptualized and written by Abdou, the music video gives a modern take on the old spaghetti Westerns of the 60’s.

DLRN is currently hard at work preparing the third installment of their EP trilogy to be released next year. Until then, The Bridge & No More Heroes is still available for download at http://dlrn.bandcamp.com.

JayKin – V.A.N. II (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 17th, 2011 by Hyphen

Sound Session listeners will recognize this track from some of our recent episodes and it’s one of my favorite Pacific Northwest records of the year.  JayKin played this for me when I dropped by Alife Vancouver a few weeks ago and I was hooked right away.  Even with our fleeting summer weather, the vibe instantly puts you in a good mood.  Combine the audio with dope shots of Vancouver at night (Gastown!) and you can’t go wrong.

Off JayKin’s Sneakers and Video Games 2 (Bonus), which you should download right here…RIGHT NOW!

Frank Ocean – Thinking About You (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 17th, 2011 by Hyphen

The yin to my last post’s yang, I LOVE this record, but the video is too creepy for me.  I almost feel like if they just put Nabil’s “Swim Good” visuals to this track, it might turn out real dope.  Eh well, I’ll cope.

Bridget Kelly, on the other hand, must feel a little sideways about this song getting visuals after Frank supposedly wrote it for her Roc Nation project…

Frank Ocean – Swim Good (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 17th, 2011 by Hyphen

The long awaited video for Frank’s “Swim Good” finally dropped and, as expected with all Nabil directed visuals, it’s clean, dope, and a little twisted. This is actually one of my least favorite tracks on Nostalgia…Ultra, but that’s not really an indictment because the project as a whole is incredible.  If any of the records could potentially catch on to radio after “Novacane” finishes its run (still my song of the year), it’s this one.  Here’s hoping the mass public continues to take notice of Frank.

Oh, and you always win points with me for any panda or samurai references.  Well done guys.
