Alright, after a few less serious (but fairly accurate) clips from Chris Rock, here’s Joe Biden’s post debate comments on MSNBC with Keith Olbermann. I love how they started with McCain’s most egregious error of the debate, where he tried to paint Obama as pridefully ignorant like Bush. Unbelievable.
McCain’s actually lucky that he has to debate Barack instead of Biden. Biden counteracts McCain’s only perceived “strength,” and wouldn’t hold back and be civil like Obama. For instance, Barack probably felt like if he pointed out that independent veterans groups have given McCain awful scores for his veterans voting, he’d get lambasted because he’s not a war hero like McCain. Biden’s got the rep to bring that up though. He’d tear John apart.
My fear, that I’ve seen others echo, is that Biden’s almost in a lose/lose situation with Palin in their debate. If he smashes her, which is increasingly possible the more we hear from her, some people will complain that he’s beating up on her unfairly. You already know that the Republican surrogates are getting the “Biden was sexist” arguments written out now before anything’s even said. That’s going to be the first talking point of that evening, count on it.
If he takes it easy, people will be impressed that she didn’t get crushed and they’ll over exaggerate her performance. Also, if Biden makes one of his trademark gaffes and does anything remotely construed as disrespectful, it’s all you’ll hear in the media for weeks. He’s got to be on his game and destroy her on nothing but the issues, without running up the score or rubbing it in. You got this, but tread lightly Joe.
Except, of course, when you’re talking about McCain. In which case, ether accordingly.
Gotta love that ‘related videos’ feature on YouTube, right? As long as we’re posting up recent Chris Rock videos, here’s his appearance on Bill Maher’s Real Time after last night’s debate. He reuses a few of the jokes from Larry King, but there’s still some great new stuff in there. Chris is always hilarious and on point as well.
Everyone’s asking where Sarah Palin is after this debate (answer: stowed safely away in Area 51), but I want to know where Dave Chappelle is. I would love to hear his take on all this.
This happened a few days ago, but I missed it live and just spotted it on the net. Absolutely brilliant. There are a ton of classic quotes in here but I really like that line about the Presidency being run like a radio station contest. I agree completely.
The only part my animal activist self would have changed was the Palin hunting joke about “why is Michael Vick in jail?” I think hunting for sport should be illegal (it’s…pointless), so I’d welcome anyone who kills some animal for fun going to jail. I thought the Bible said “thou shall not kill.” Did they change it when I wasn’t looking and add “…humans?” Anyway, part two below:

It’s been fascinating to watch how quickly the Palin effect turned negative, and rightly so. Regardless of what side of the policy debates you fall on, she’s clearly an awful VP candidate and was solely picked to try to throw a wrinkle into the race. From day one, even the other Republicans were salty about this and now that the initial “OMG HE PICKED A WOMAN” buzz has died, she’s killing McCain’s campaign every time she opens her mouth.
LOL @ that answer in the Couric interview. Paul Krugman hit it on the head: it sounded like a college freshman who showed up to class without doing any of the reading. “Totally incoherent.”
The scariest part about all this is that McCain’s entire mantra of “Country First” was drop-kicked out the window by making this selection. They knew the only chance they had in the election was to play the gender wildcard, and it shows how reckless a campaign he’s running. This is a 72 year old, four time cancer survivor…and he picked THIS? [Nappy Roots] Aw hell naw [/Nappy].

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Jason Williams announced his retirement from the NBA today, ending his 10-year career. Signed by the Clippers as a free agent on August 7, 2008, Williams did not appear in a game for Los Angeles.
Williams enjoyed a 10-year NBA career that saw him take the court for three different teams, (Sacramento 1998-2001, Memphis 2001-2005 and Miami 2005-2008). A member of the NBA Champion Miami Heat in 2005-06, Williams started all 23 playoff games and averaged 9.3 points and 3.9 assists for Miami in helping to win the organization’s first title.
The West Virginia native leaves the NBA with career averages of 11.4 points, 6.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 2.4 rebounds while shooting 39.6 percent from the floor, 32.5 percent from three-point range and 81.6 percent from the foul line in 679 total games. Williams finishes his career with a 2.77 assist-to-turnover ratio.
He enjoyed his best statistical season in 2001-02 when he averaged 14.8 points, 8.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds for Memphis. In his four seasons with the Grizzlies, Williams became the club’s all-time assists leader and all-time leader in three-point field goals attempted in addition to being named the NBA’s Most Improved Player for the 2002-03 season by Sports Illustrated when he finished tied for second in the league in assists per game.
Originally drafted with the seventh overall selection in the 1998 NBA Draft by Sacramento after one season at the University of Florida, Williams was named to the 1998-99 NBA All-Rookie Team following an electrifying first season that saw him average 12.8 points and 6.0 assists. Over the next nine seasons, Williams emerged as one of the most dependable point guards in the NBA, averaging double-figures in scoring and at least five assists per game in eight of his ten years in the league.
After seeing this news on a messageboard, I noticed someone also posted up a little J-Will highlight reel. If you’ve ever talked to me on AIM, now you know where the “55” in the name comes from…
I watched that last highlight in person at Key Arena and I’ll never forget it. He had just pulled off a great play and followed it up by freezing Gary Payton (at that time, the NBA’s best defender) and kissing it high off the glass. Even the Sonic fans went crazy for that one. R.I.P. Seattle Supersonics.
In case you missed this from last night, Dave pwns McCain after canceling his appearance. It’s definitely fine to cancel, but their camp said he would be immediately flying back to Washington DC to work on the economic crisis. In actuality, he stayed in NYC for an interview and another appearance, and left later that evening. LOL @ getting busted lying by a talk show host. I love that Letterman and The View have called out some of the buffoonery more than the mainstream news media.
Don’t make me post Palin’s atrocious performance in the Katie Couric interview. Dear God.
