Emilio Rojas – This Is Hip-Hop (video)

Posted in Artists, Videos on February 11th, 2010 by Hyphen

Not a music video, but the homies Court Dunn and Emilio Rojas hooked up for this quick piece where Emilio runs off some things that define hip-hop to him.  Really well done and bonus points for the Wu-Tang Financial reference.

Kardinal Offishall – We Gon’ Go (video)

Sound Session listeners will remember this track from a few months ago.  Great record from one of my favorites and one of the most underrated MC’s of all time.  Yeah, I said it.

Sound Session #244 (1-31-10)

Posted in Episodes, Sound Session on February 2nd, 2010 by Hyphen

Big shout to the homey MiC K!NG (formerly known as iCON The Mic King) for co-hosting this week’s episode of SNSS with us.  If you haven’t checked out his new project with Chum, what are you waiting for?

It’s always fun to kick it with cool folks, and when they happen to be dope MC’s on top of that, it’s even better.  That’s rare, by the way.  There’s generally an inverse relationship between your level of talent and how nice you are.  Hit me and I’ll give you some examples, if you can’t think of a few on your own…

Anyway, peep episode #244 for all sorts of dopeness and the debut of our new Throwback of the Week feature.  Sometimes we get a little tired of the new selections we pick from each week and we figured we could educate some of our listeners with a classic jawn each show.  If you don’t like this week’s pick, you might as well stop checking for SNSS cause “What They Do” is flawless.

Oh, and shout to Nneka for calling in as well.  Her Concrete Jungle album hits stores today and it’s already racking up great reviews left and right.  I’ve been rocking the album and her mixtape with J. Period a lot recently and all the praise is well deserved.  Get on the bandwagon now before it’s filled up!  Full interview coming soon (I feel like I say that every week…bah…gonna find some free time to get those online for y’all soon).

Show #244 (1-31-10)
**Co-hosted by MiC K!NG**

  1. The Knux – “Floozy”
  2. Pill ft. Freddie Gibbs – “Run Up To Me”
  3. Diamond District – “Who I Be (Marco Polo Remix)”
  4. Strong Arm Steady ft. Roscoe & Guilty Simpson – “Needle In The Haystack”
  5. David Banner – “Slow”
  6. Lupe Fiasco – “The One Freestyle”
  7. D. Black ft. Fatal Lucciauno – “Special” (Local Music)
  8. RJD2 ft. Phonte – “The Shining Path”
  9. Cool-Aide (MiC K!NG & Chum) – “I’m All That 2009”
  10. Adrian – “I Love Your Sexy” (Local Music)
  11. Raheem DeVaughn – “Ms. High Heels”
  12. Little Dragon – “Blinking Pigs (1-O.A.K. God Made Me Funky Remix)”

Broken Bells – The High Road (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on January 30th, 2010 by Hyphen

Dangermouse stays winning.  Here’s the first look from his new project, Broken Bells, with the lead singer of the Shins, James Mercer.  Really looking forward to hearing this project.

And for the record, The Grey Album sucked, but I suppose we can thank it for launching DM into stardom.  Records with Jemini The Gifted One probably weren’t raking in the dough.

Sean Price – Figure Four (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on January 30th, 2010 by Hyphen

Some visuals for one of the dope freestyles off Kimbo Price.  Every time we use this beat on Sound Session, people ask what it is.  Have you forgotten this classic from Pace Won?

Foundation Crossfit Grand Opening on Sunday!

Posted in News, Random Ish, Sports on January 30th, 2010 by Hyphen

Those of you who know me in real life have probably heard me talk (at length) about a style of working out called crossfit.  Ever since the homey Dru introduced it to me, I’ve been a fan.  In short, it focuses on simple movements performed at a high level for short periods of time.  It’s way more efficient and challenging than simply lifting weights and I would recommend everyone check it out, regardless of your level of fitness.

Seattle people should come check it out tomorrow at the grand opening for Dru’s new space.  Foundation Crossfit has been around for a few years, but come check out the new spot and find out about these workouts that will change your life.  Tomorrow’s schedule is as follows:

Foundation CrossFit
1422 11th Ave
Seattle, WA 98122
(Down the driveway underneath the rear entrance of Pac Supply Company. Look for the orange building.)

Sunday, January 31, 2010

11:00 – 12:00 Meet & Greet / Social Hour
12:00 – 12:30 Introduction to CrossFit
12:30 – 13:00 Workout Demos, Q&A
13:00 – 14:00 Group Workout
14:00 – 16:00 Open House

See you there.
