Apologies for the delay, but here’s our backstage interview with Kendrick Lamar from KUBE 93’s Summer Jam a few weeks ago. Kendrick spoke on balancing his journey to stardom with his focus on the music, his Top Dawg Entertainment family behind the scenes, tour life, “The Recipe” and finding the right single, and his upcoming album. When “Cut You Off” came up in discussion, I had to ask him about his motivations behind that one too since it’s one of my favorite records of the last 5 years or so. All around, a very cool dude and I know we’re all rooting for him to breakthrough and have mainstream success when the next album drops.
The homey Luck recently released the video for “Searchin'” off his highly underrated Beautiful Music 2 project and he filmed it in our lovely city of Seattle. See…it doesn’t always rain here!

I always preferred No Doubt’s ska sound over their pop records, but they’ve generally done an admirable job trying to merge the two. I’m not mad at this record, but I really wanted to posted the video because Gwen Stefani is 42 years old. Are you kidding me? Whatever her, Nas, and Pharrell are doing, it’s downright spooky at this point.

While most of the country is out partying and enjoying the weather, Lana releases the video for “Summertime Sadness,” painting a melancholy feeling on the sunshine like only she can. Not particularly one of my favorites from the album, but still pretty good. The whole project is strong.
Another set of visuals from possibly the most slept on album of the past year, TiRon & Ayomari’s A Sucker For Pumps. First underwater spaghetti fight in music video history?
Stalley links up with Curren$y for visuals to my favorite record on Savage Journey To The American Dream. This hook couldn’t be more fitting with Rick Ross dropping “3 Kings” earlier today. And Meek was buzzing all around Seattle yesterday. Damn…all MMG everything right now. #TheTakeover

The homey David Dallas relocated from New Zealand to New York and just dropped the video for the first song leaked off his Falling Into Place album. Or as he put it:
“Sometimes you just wanna make a rap video at a days notice. Especially when you grow up on the other side of the earth and get a chance to go to a place you’ve only seen in skate vids, the Mo Money, Mo Problems music video and at the end of Men In Black. No days off until this thing takes off.â€
